Yes, yes, I know that the Skytrax awards http://www.worldairlineawards.com/Awards_2013/flounge.htm are very arguable, but noticed that QF was 'awarded' # 2 in best First Lounge rankings. I assume the singular means they judge a single lounge, not as a range (could be wrong).

LH ranked #1 I've been in a couple of LH lounges in Germany this year and must admit their Senator lounge at non Schengen terminal at FRA (near gate Z50) was superb; I had to spend about 6 hours there. I was told by regular LH flyers that this was the flagship lounge at FRA, so I assume also across the globe. I didn't notice any a la carte dining, nor a spa, so in my mind it lacked a few key features of a top class First Class Lounge.

QF # 2 I guess not surprising to most here that QF ranked very high, with both SYD and MEL top notch.

Qatar was #3

BA # 4 - F Galleries at LHR 5 no doubt a high quality product

Etihad # 5

Emirates # 6. This would really steam them, wouldn't it? And based on comments elsewhere in this Forum seems a very odd ranking.

Thai # 7

Cathay # 8 Presumably before the newly renovated The Wing was opened.

Singapore # 9

ANA # 10

Emirates #5, Emirates #6 for Business Lounges.

I guess the votes were in before the Baxter-Storey catering contract commenced, there's many a disgruntled FTer posting.

So far so good. The Lounge looked in better shape with things cleaned away. A lot of these problems seem to come from the staff - all of whom were hired from the small ads in the Hounslow and Feltham Gazette. Miles away from the excellence that seems to be working at Gatwick. I watched on female putting magazines out. Between her gossiping to other staff members it took ages. She had two speeds of working - dead slow and stop. I hope that she never has arthritis of the jaw as her later years will prove painful.

Now the bad. The Breakfast Buffet looked like the hot table at a Holiday Inn Express. What was worst was that nothing was actually warm let alone hot. I made bacon sandwiches for HI . The rolls had to be searched for and I think that they brought out yesterdays. The bacon was cold. So I tried a little of everything except baked beans as I hate them (far too sweet), the scrambled eggs were held together with something sticky. I dread to think what that was, and frankly the lot needed a good zap in a microwave. The potatoes were not crisp - and the lot looked soggy. The catering manager needs to learn how to cook and then manage the food better. I think that the whole thing is a health hazard as food like that is a breeding ground for nasty bacteria. I did not know that you could order fresh. Where are the menus?

I then read the comments book. Dear God, frankly I'd rename it "The Dictionary of Venom", I never read the like. I have to be honest - some of it was so far Over The Top that it was accelerating down the other side. Him Indoors wanted to write some comments about the comments, but I forbade that on pain of rupture of marital relations.

The Good

They actually had Slimline Tonic

The Champagnes were delicious.

The 60 days are nearly up and with all this poisonous feedback hopefully this crowd will be out on their necks and we will get some decent caterers and some food that is fit for human consumption.

Now I have to say that we are somewhat spoilt and we are a little demanding. Nevertheless we are the consumers and we are as we are and they need to respond to our expectations and that is not happening at this moment.

Are things better at Star A - I know how wonderful Cathay and co are but someone who had clearly dipped his pen in vitriol before writing in That Book said that he was off to Star A and I did wonder about frying pans and fires.

I disagree. Lufthansa's Flagship First Lounge at FRA is not a lounge, they operate a dedicated terminal for HON (pax who fly 600k miles every 2 years in J or F) and F pax. From experience, I'd say that at the very least, it is as good, if not a little better than QF F lounges at SYD or MEL.

Erk has nothing to do with this particular product or service. :p
