And they just signed a deal with the Australian for e-newspapers that is actually quite good, I can't find the link right now though, was announced a day or so ago

(The many past threads discussing Sky in lounges seem to be locked so I thought it worth creating a new thread.)

Meh. The criticisms of Sky News generally relate to prime time (post 6pm) - at other times its quite centrist (lets not forget the long time Political Editor is now the host of ABC's insiders).

It comes down to a matter of resourcing, and from what I understand, Sky has more resources vs ABC24 so has better domestic news coverage for breaking news.

But also, frankly I've got better things to do when I'm in the lounge than watch the news.

ABC will also produce the bulletins that are played on board as well.

I reckon on 9/10 flights when you try to view the inflight news it isn't available. Hopefully this changes.

Maybe QFF are copying VA - as their lounges reopened this year there was nothing on the monitors but in early March I saw they had ABC news 24.

It must be cheaper.

It must be cheaper.

It would be substantial. The Sky access fee (via Foxtel) for certain industries is $2k per 10 screens per premise, monthly.

Sky may have done a volume deal to get their content into the lounges but I would imagine Qantas still pays something for it.

So you'll now get less in the Business Lounge than you can get on your phone (without paying)? Sounds like an enhancement to me.

Personally I think the news on Sky is much better than any ABC news program. I thought David Speers was one of the best news readers and Keiran Gilbert has turned out to be very good as well. much more news and less opinion than the ABC.

And the Sky News election debate was hands down the best of the three. The other two were terrible.

ABC news readers also only read the news and don't give opinion. Surely you're not seriously trying to compare opinion editorial shows with news reading. At least be honest and compare opinion shows with opinion shows.
