Significant NAB changes coming; no travel insurances on most cards from mid-2026

Cardholders with the below cards who meet eligibility, and the claimable event is on or after 15 May 2026 will no longer have International and Domestic Travel Insurance, and Rental Vehicle Excess Insurance in Australia.

Then you won't have travel insurance and no car rental insurance. This is pretty black and white to me?

I mean NAB has plenty of cards with no insurance, like their "NAB Low Fee Credit Card"

Probably the thin edge of the wedge. Let's see how long it takes for the other banks to follow, but I am sure the annual fee will not be reduced to reflect the reduction in benefits.
Westpac did not reduce their annual card fee when they removed the black Amex from their card pack.

If one has a lower level card that's losing travel insurance in mid-2026, will NAB be likely to agree to switch the holder to a higher fee 'Level 1' card as noted above?

One would have to complete a new application as that'd be required by the conditions of the credit provider licence.

What I don't want to occur is cancelling the existing card and applying for the 'Level 1' card, only to find out my application for the latter is denied.

For completeness, from May 2026 does the number of days of travel covered for the 'signature Level 1' cards stay at 60 days or does it reduce to 30?

So it seems the insurance will end on 16 May. My partner's mother will be away returning about 19 May. Trying to work out if we can take out paid insurance for the residual 4 days to provide complete trip cover, or whether the cover needs to be for the whole period. They way most PDS's seem to be written suggests it is OK, (they even suggest if you take it out whilst overseas already there is a 3 day period before policy is effective), but any answers from the foreign staffed call centres that we've rung indicate a no.
