Sadly this advice was accurate-
The department’s travel warning said US citizens should “exercise caution at holiday festivals, events, and outdoor markets,” and stated that credible information indicates Isis, al-Qaeda and their affiliates are continuing to plan attacks in Europe and have a focus on holiday events.

"US citizens should also be alert to the possibility that extremist sympathizers or self-radicalized extremists may conduct attacks during this period with little or no warning,” it stated.
America warns citizens travelling to Europe of ‘heightened risk of terrorist attack’ at Christmas markets | The Independent

An articulated lorry has ploughed into a busy Christmas market in the heart of Berlin, killing 12 people and injuring 48.
Germany's Interior Minister, Thomas de Maiziere, said "many things" pointed to a deliberate attack.
Police said on Twitter that the lorry driver had been arrested, and that a passenger died from his injuries.

And that after a failed attack at another Christmas market earlier in the month-

I feel very affected because it was our life in those well known places, memories, walking going to KFC, even the Hotel Waldorf Astoria and it's now ( gone) Romanische Cafe which I loved. The Zoo the S Bahn, Europa Center used to pick up Avis Rent a car. Going to KaDeWe! I was purchasing Nutella pancakes from that very stall for my own family. I had only just been there on that Breitscheidplatz( about 2 weeks ago) when they were setting it up with the Christmas trees they were all new covered in plastic still.
Very Sentimental. You might know that they just finished building apartments right on the doorstep of those markets called "UpperWestSide" right at the End of KantStrasse. Where it joins up to Budapesterstrasse.

The truck had Polish registration plates. A Young Polish Truck driver is missing aged 24 he is the Nephew of the owner. It looks like he had been killed ( most likely murdered earlier) and was believed to be the dead Passenger.

This goes to show that something is wrong with the system. I hope and pray for all those people affected. My dearest wishes condolences for all those who died a tragic senseless death in Berlin yesterday

I hope these businesses survive and tourist numbers are not affected .......as drastically as say in Paris. Its the sad truth but it does affect peoples movement as Dr Ron mentioned above. Paris is well deprived of its usual buoyant Tourists numbers, I am not in hurry to visit it either. Merkel Government Still in Denial? change thinking! Springs to mind.

One attack in Germany doesn't signify that people should change plans. It will shake up the German political system though and pretty much ensure that a anti-refugee hard line Government is elected.

The UK is still at high risk of an attack, and my daily plans have not changed. I would have to be EXTREMELY unlucky to be anywhere near where an attack took place. Why should it change anyone elses plans?

Granted I avoid certain countries, and for example refuse to go to Egypt due to the internal issues and risks, but my day to day plans do not change. We can't let the nutters win via fear.

Here it's plain to see that this taxfree refund is only residents outside the European Union.

Another reason to leave the EU ?

Had anyone be caught out with that clause? Only for residents outside of the EU ?? It's happened several people I know ....., where customs person said no you are a EU resident despite having two passports !

it has been this way for a long time IIRC... ever since duty free was abolished between EU member states, which is going back ~15 years?

Trump: He said: "When we take on China or the European Union, which has tremendous blocks, it's very hard for us to sell stuff into the European Union. "It was put there to take advantage of the United States, OK." Responding to a member of the crowd shouting "not anymore", he replied: "You're right.

The eurozone's nagging problems
includes: Greece due to its precarious financial situation and unemployment.
Nearly 18 million people are unemployed across the EU. 11.1% of the workforce.
Germany has low unemployment ( you might have guessed)
Italy, Slovakia, Cyprus and Portugal close 12% Spain has 22%,.
Youth unemployment in Spain 50%, Italy 40%, 32% in Portugal. Even in France a core eurozone country it's close to 1 in 4.

Government debt is high 130% of annual national income or GDP in Italy, Portugal and in excess of 100% in Ireland, Belgium, and Cyprus.
IMF forecast shows low growth around 2% this and next year. Exceptions Spain and Ireland seen as poster children for knuckling down and getting on with painful adjustment.

Though looking at recent happening in EU the Stability of a single currency and single government is far from over. Poland, Hungary being recently released from Socialist Communist regime remembers well it's past and how unpalatable life can be under iron curtain and its after effects in the form of a squeaky wheel(Communist / Socialist ruling party and family), that also gets more attention. My guess is that it wont be long to see some changes look at Chemnitz saga.

Swedish elections will be interesting this weekend. Globalists versus the Nationalists.

They were campaigning hard when I was there last week.
Cheers.
