Has anyone else noticed the dud guest passes for auction on Ebay? Did the righty a couple of times and notfied the bidders that these were duds. They are still getting posted on Ebay but the seller's are keeping the high bidders ID private. What a bargain 2 passes for USD16, not a bad price for cardboard.

Maybe tip off Ebay that they are not valid? Or maybe send an email to Qantas that someone is selling their non-transferrable passes (which have no value anyways) and are thus damaging the Qantas brand....

Not sure if either would help...

BTW, I have 15 of those guest cards... Would have liked QF to allow them to be continued to be used until they expired ... but I suppose they worked out how many were in circulation and how much they'd lose by letting them be redeemed.

The passes are fully transferable, and if they were not, there would be some sort of coding system to track the passes.
Hey, it's not my fault users don't do their research.

If anything is promoting qantas, not damaging the brand as you suggest - it reminds everyone that the club is an exclusive space and entry is so strict that a $16 pass is the only thing that might get you in!

Hey d00t, these are Qantas Club Guest Passes which have not been valid since the changes from 1st June last Year.

Theye ARE NOT the invitations.

It is not against EBay rules to sell them. And one day they might actually be worth something as Qantas memorabilia (some people will pay for anything). But I have a problem when the descriptions imply they can be used for entry to a Qantas or BA lounge. Some descriptions include the fact they are only valid with a member, but we all know these are invalid with or without a member.

Here is an example of someone trying to pass off the very old undated blue guest passes as "current issue":

In my opinion, the worst of these scammers is the seller called 5startravel. In know this seller knows these passes are worthless since I have emailed them the link from the QF web site that details the new rules. The response was that they would check with Qantas and withdraw the auction if this was true. They either did not check with Qantas or can't read. They have continued selling these for months since I notified of the worthless nature of the product they are selling.

I think the reason they now make their auctions for these passes as private auctions is to ensure someone like me does not email the bidders to alert them to the reality of the value of cardboard before the action is over - which I have never done. So I am probably what this seller is referring to with their comment "Note: I now make bidding private on all auctions to protect underbidders from contact by fraudulent ebay members. ". Now, who is likely to be the fraudulent one?

Selling these for US$29 for 2 is not what I would consider "memorabilia".

haha..love how he did it..

might see how much ican get...still a few books here

Interesting wording.

This auction is not to buy The Qantas Club Members Guest Passes,
You are biding on an envelope, & I give you for FREE 5 Qantas Club Members Guest Passes

It also mentions further down "Guest pass is only valid when presented by the accompanying Qantas Club member". So in order to buy these passes you really need to be naive. :?

And I have this bridge for sale if anyone is interested 8) .

Well I have a pack of 100 blank unused DL sized envelopes I am willing to part ways with.

All reasonable offers considered.

Seeing I still have some of those "useless pieces of cardboard" floating around, maybe I will get a chance to sell off my envelopes...

AT least your bridge might have some value as scrap metal.

$1 for the pack

Forgot to mention the ebay style delivery/postage charge! $12 :D

I can throw in some QC guest passes* if it makes the deal sweeter?

*May not be valid anymore!

I've reported the latest one to ebay security and also sent the seller a message advising the same. :x :x

Be interesting to see what ebay does...

Why should they do anything?

If the person is selling what they are advertising, then they have done nothing wrong. If people are stupid enough to buy them, then it would be almost rude not to sell to them

Basically because its against Ebay rules to have inaccurate descriptions.

However, I did get a reply from the ebay member:

'you are correct. made a call to qantas today and have been advised these passes are no longer valid. as i am now star alliance member i was not aware of this. i have since changed the auction listing and details.
thanks for advice'

I want to know what the envelope looks like! If this guy's selling an envelope for $15 and throwing in some free bits of cardboard, why is there only a picture of the three bits of cardboard and none of this clearly outstanding and very valuable envelope?

Just found the auction has ended early with:

The seller ended this listing early because of an error in the listing.
