Why does it have to be a choise between two things.

Not sure why Sofitel can't do both the sandwich toaster and meat/pasta. Not much of a caterer are they. Or perhaps QF isn't much of a customer.

The lounge is meant to be for convenience. I don't feel that having to make my own food is convenient. Next they'll have a station of wet-wipes so we can wipe down our own tables before we sit down. Maybe they'll invent a system where each row on the aircraft helps push the self service meal trolley down the aisle.

The sandwich presses take up too much room, take too long to operate and generally have too long a queue.

I'm just waiting for someone to start making a toasted sandwich, get an urgent boarding call, forget to take their sanga off the cooker and burn the damn lounge down.

I left some feed back on this dismal state of affairs.

A lovely lady phoned me back, explained the pasta/meat started at a certain time. As I pointed out I didn't want a toasted sandwich and wondered why Sofitel could not chew gum and walk at the same time she said she didn't know why two things were beyond them. (soup starts at 11.30am apparently)

She said a lounge manager would call me back next week, I'm in a lounge next Tuesday I might tell them in person

Knowing about the sad offerings on Wednesday this week I had a late lunch before heading the airport so I didn't need to eat when I got there.

If anyone sees a bloke with a pizza box in a lounge, that will be me.

I love that people whinge and moan about the VA sandwich presses, yet when QF introduce it, it's amazing and awesome ;)

ISTR posts on the introduction of the sandwich toaster in the VA lounges as generally indicating this was perceived as an improvement.

No so for QPs, being some what along the lines of being an enhancement ¡!¡

I started the thread after searching for any reference to Qantas sandwich bar. If mods want to move it, please do. I did search!

In a few visits to the Qantas Club last week, I saw the self serve sandwich bar in the SYD and BNE lounges, including the sandwich presses for toasties. Great idea. Toasties seemed very popular for late breakfast in SYD. Any idea when these were introduced, and what do others think.

I did not actually try the sandwich bars - was flying J, but in QP due to J lounge closures. I ate on the plane. Will be interested to see if J Lounge also has sandwich bar when reopened.

Whilst many other posters have observed the disappearance of the hot (pasta) option at the QP, I have yet to experience this myself thankfully. Maybe this is because I am usually there just after the evening peak (where they have just replenished the food) or on the weekends (less people), but on my last three visits, the hot option (plus the usual cold salads) was still available.

From memory the sandwich press was in the BNE business lounge on 20 December.

There was both pasta and the sandwich press in Canberra tonight. Mind you the pasta looked bloody horrible so I made a sandwich.

Maybe that is the new plan to return QF to profit - have a QC patron burn down the terminal, so QF collects a massive insurance payout. Then AJ announces Jetstar will continue flying from that dreadful port-a-loo terminal in SYD (where Virgin first flew from) 'until the QF terminal is rebuilt'. QF then decide to build a shopping mall and car park there instead.

The sandwich bar appears to be very popular in the SYD Qantas lounge.

There are 3 sandwich presses and there is a queue.
