In a few visits to the Qantas Club last week, I saw the self serve sandwich bar in the SYD and BNE lounges, including the sandwich presses for toasties. Great idea. Toasties seemed very popular for late breakfast in SYD. Any idea when these were introduced, and what do others think.

I believe these were introduced in early December last year when Sofitel took over the operations of the Qantas Club. I haven't tried it myself as I don't really want a toasted sandwich for dinner (or pre-dinner) as I am usually in the Qantas Club in the evenings.

Thumbs up for giving people more options.

Good option, but the quality of the cold meats is significantly inferior to previously. Was very disappointed with what was on offer when I visited SYD QC around NYE.

I hate it. It's really a big decline. Instead of offering a reasonable hot food dish you have to somehow make a toastie? That might be OK but all the ingredients were rubbish! Thank goodness the soup is still on.

A big thumbs down from me I'm afraid. :(

I'm with you Austman, I really don't want to have a toastie for dinner and at best a bit of ham available and not even a bit of cheese to make a ham and cheese toastie! Really needs to be looked at if that is the future of offerings in the QC?

Daughter was in J lounge in BNE ( her first time)
interesting to hear a 19 yo viewpoint
"im not that keen on a toasted sandwich to stand in line that long"

J lounges re-open in a few days, who knows what food will be on offer... dare I say hot dogs ?

As a vego I don't mind the sandwich bar style. It sure beats the meat/pasta combo.

A lowering of food quality has been achieved. Bring back the average meat pasta combo, it was better than the average toasted sandwich QF has delivered up.

Yep, they are now serving hot dogs in the J Lounge (there's another thread somewhere about that)... and they have the toastie too. Started this in December.

Seen them, not tried them. Then again I've been flying J for the past 2 days so I've been saving myself for onboard.

I have noticed the sandwich presses. I am not too keen on a toasted sandwich.

Spoke with the SYD Lounge Manager Yesterday and the Diner Concept will be continueing however they will be doing 5 different options that will rotate on a weekly Basis. Furthermore the Breakfast menu will revert back to pre prepared items that were replaced and also a BIGGER more industrial Juicer is being added.
They are also makiing changes to the Barista to speed things up there too. So according to him the J lounge offering should be nuch Better this year.
On a side note it was interesting to hear that they have now brought the cooking of foods back int to the lounge as previously they were bringing in preprepared food and just well presenting it. The in lounge chef gives the chefs a better idea as to what is neeeded and when it is needed and can be cooked fresh.

Do we really need another thread on the food offerings and whether or not Qantas's requirements include supplying dinner in dozens of different formats for one and all. Unless they start giving out menus with dozens of choices and making it just for you then we will always have someone moaning that they don't like this but want this and it goes on and on. This topic has been done and dusted many, many times in the past, why do we need another 50 poster thread

Yep we sure do

Thanks for your valuable input to the thread though

Yep the toasters appeared not long after Sofitel took over. No-one was using them when I was there during 4-7pm times..

They are suited to 10am-4pm IMO

I think the difference here is commenting on the (quite big) change that Qantas has made. Is the change for the better or worse? IMO some better quality fillings would improve the offering. Away from food: I also think the toaster things look a bit dangerous. And it seems they can create queues, which is not an improvement.

A thread talking about something new in an area where many of us have a vested interest, of course it's warranted! Changes to what's been somewhat mundane and boring should be talked about.
