Fortunately my wife also loves travel but is much more particular where she stays-sure I will go camping as long as there are 5 stars overhead and I know some good motels-they go by the name of Sheraton or Hilton.
Thankfully, I have a wife that shares my ideals whereby "my idea of camping is a 3* hotel". She's done enough camping by the time she was in Venturers . So she loved it when I first introduced her my friends Hilton, Sheraton, Holiday Inn & Crowne Plaza. I'm grateful that we can afford it and when travelling together with Mrs LW and mini-LW, affordability made even better.

To me the enjoyment is both the travel and the destination.I admit to enjoying the benefits of status such as upgrades and lounge access. Although in the past we have had great stays at 2-3 star hotels there were also some shockers. Even the worst 5 star experience will still be comfortable-at least so far.The complaints are usually about slipping standards and poor value.
Have to agree there - I enjoy everything from planning, the airport experience including the check-in and lounge access, the flights but probably not C&I. Status has it's moments

Do you think your travel culture will be radically altered again when mini-LW #2 comes along?

(Aside: You already have little CL...will the next one be WP? Just kidding - give my best regards to Mrs LW...)

C & I? Customs and immigration? Yeah that's a downer, but everyone, from NB to WP has to endure it, with no favouritism to play a part at all. Yeah, inbound to AU there's the express lane but you need to have nothing to declare and how effective is it really?

As for the Y vs J debate with days off etc mentioned by people here, i would love to have the choice, some counties i have been to before, and want in and out thats it, others i would take the time. As it happens i dont get a choice ! so whY it is.
For me that is a no brainer. I would rather travel in WHY and have a day off at either end of the trip. There is no way I will be going to work the same day if I have landed at 5:00am after 9 hours of travel or even worse after 24 hours of travel even if they offered business class travel....

John, precisely. And why did i ponder this question. - having travelled [yes it is my own business] in QF whY MEL/SIN/FRA arriving approx 6.00am after 20+ hours in the saddle - enough time for a shower at the Sheraton (without checking in) - straight into an 8.00am round table meeting [upstairs at the airport] with Fraport / Eurocontrol / FAA / NASA / Airbus / DFS / Lufthansa plus others, lunch in the staff canteen watching operations and then finishing the meeting at 5.00pm - before being escorted airside by the Airport staff to facilitate security to catch the 6.00pm to Washington DC (via Terminal 4 at LHR) is not fun.

Do i enjoy flying whY (last minute booking) MEL - Geneva for a day and then coming straight back? Not really - but combine it with a boat trip on the lake, walk across the Pont Du Mont Blanc, Dinner at the Armouries restaurant in the old city and a reasonable hotel then it all changes.

When you do it constantly - even if it was in bus class - it becomes ridiculous. Keeping some of the younger (and older members of the team ie. 63yo) travelling is a challenge.

I am self-fund Silver probably QF Gold next month(one more SYD-HKG C)
Flying premium class is faster qualify QF satus than other programs.

Ex.Flying return SYD-HKG-TPE return C I can get 300 points.
I only need two return plus one extra 100 points then become QF gold.
If I collect points to CX which mean I got nothing.
Actually purchase business class ticket from oversea is much cheaper than Australia.

I am still Uni student so just some school holidays to flying.
Most of my flights are flying in business class because I want more comfortable. And I never qualify any hotel status.I get marriott gold by promotion and Hyatt diamond is free upgrade from invite(friend's company)

Hope graduate next June and my job involve many travels that maybe I can get WP.

Yes, travel culture will change. Pre CLW, I would have trips 2-3 in length and girlfriend (now wife) could handle that as we only had dog(s) to contend with. Post CLW, my trips shortened to overnights or day trips (hate day trips, because of the risks of flight delays stuffing up a days appointments). After the next one (which won't be named WP ;) regardless of it's sex), I don't think it will change much - although I think my overnighters might even be stretched - but let's wait and see. Willl pass on your regards.

At least I have access to the express lane due to a special card I hold.

Perhaps parent funded rather than self-funded??? Or do just have a very well paying student job? ;)

I think another member QF009 is student as well.

Student here indeed, with a part time job though that might have to end next year due to lack of time.

Pearl on the Peak - yummo! :D Just as good as the one in Richmond IMO, different but good. :)

When I was a student, I was barely able to afford to fly....looks like the students of today not only fly a lot, but in J and F as well:shock:

I really only started travelling for myself for real when I started my PhD. I've got a couple of scholarships worth of tax free cash through those, so that's given me impetus. I probably could have done it as a broke undergraduate too, considering that I did tutoring of anywhere between 2 - 5 classes when I was in undergraduate, plus throw in some very little casual research assistant work.

I still tutor as a PhD student but that is taxable income - still not a $$$ amount to be sneezed at.

Having said that, I fly mainly in cheapest economy with only J if the price or SC rate is right. Never flown "long-haul" J, never ever in my life yet have flown F. Beats me how some of the other students here do it regularly.

I'm a fully self-funded WP and a full-time student.

However, I also work anything between 40 and 80 hours a week in a non-studenty (?) job. Sadly my parents wouldn't be assisting me other than to take me out for an occasional dinner which is almost counter-productive because I won't be earning points on my credit card :p

I have a part time job which funds my travels partially. As well my Dad has been determined that I should learn a thing or 2 about property investments, shares etc so we've set up several joint accounts a few years ago and I've been lucky to have done well out of that. The last couple of months have impacted on my cash flow somewhat but it's mitigated by the rise of the USD as I have a few USD accounts - now if only I can convince the parents to let me use at least one of those accounts for travels...:p

I get a monthly allowance but am not allowed to use it for my travels. Only "necessary expenditure" like paying for rent, the cleaner, food, alcohol, entertainment etc.

When I was a student, I got to fly a few times each year - usually in various green-painted aircraft with webbing seats and no frills.

There were no Frequent Flyer schemes in Queensland University Regiment, but we could swap horror stories with the best.

Hands up all those who want to go back to uni..........it appears to have become a life of travel and leisure.

Cleaner:?: I was lucky to see the floor during my uni days.

Hands up all of those that never want to experience going through another postnominal.

I was just glad that all of my 4 postnominals were all done as an external student (due to my full-time job), so I have never experienced the boredom of a lecture.

Hands up all those that don't actually use the word postnominal in favour of the more KISS principle inspired degree.

You're weak if you can't endure lectures. It was a great time to catch up on sleep :mrgreen:. OK, if you honestly had boring lecturers, you'd tell them to either shape up or go jump in the lake. (Unless they lecture in specialist fields like....dentistry ...where their positions are relatively impregnable...)

No cleaners here as such - I live at home with the folks so it works out. They get the weekly vacuuming and (about 30% of the week) the dishes washed for $50 per week. I should really throw in mowing the lawn as well, but........ The ante will up a little bit when my sister graduates from dentistry and moves to ROK for her job.

While I have never personally used the word (nor do I actually use any of my postnominals), not all postnominals are degrees.
