I pre-ordered a meal using Select on Q-Eat for my SYD-HKG flight last Friday. I had ordered a salad but was instead given a hot roast chicken dish. It wasn't bad, but I'm not sure what the point of pre-ordering a meal is if you end up with something else?

The last time I used this service (on a SYD-AKL flight) the crew had no record of my order at all.

Is this normal, or am I just unlucky?

Sounds a tad unlucky, I've successfully received 3 Q-Eat orders over the past few months. It's great that they always seem to serve these up first too.

I didn't have too much luck with the 'select on Q-Eat' meals thus far. On one occasion there was no record of my order and the other was that they had loaded the wrong dish.

My GF had a similar negative experience when her online exclusive meal was not loaded on our SYD-HKG flight last month.

Interesting... the meal I received on SYD-HKG was actually the online exclusive one, despite the fact that I had ordered from the regular menu!

Matt I've also had "no record" of my pre-selection a couple of times with QF in J and a few times on AA in F. Clearly happens a fair bit so not isolated mistakes - but perhaps not enough on QF to receive a sufficient backlash to lead to any change. Makes me think you were unlucky more than anything else.

As I've posted previously, there's a significant flaw in pre-ordering on any airline if the crew allow or even invite passengers to depart from their pre-selected choice. Someone down the line is highly likely to miss out on their preferred meal.

On my flight just now I got my selection and my partner's wasn't recorded, although she still go the meal she wanted.

My experience is that more often than not they don't appear to have any knowledge of selections made before the flight. However they always seem to have what I wanted anyway. So I'm not sure of the value of the pre select thing.

Take a chance on QEAT
(That's all I ask of you honey)

I have always received my Q-Eat selection, although i wish the offer was available on the return segments back to Australia.

I'm pretty sure you can select your meal for the return sectors but as it can only be done a few days (a week?) before your flight you may need to do it whilst away - just head to the 'Manage my Booking' section and go from there.

I've always got my selected meal.

But I sometimes think that there is no such thing as the 'online exclusive' option anymore.... All the options shown online are available onboard?

YEP..AND the info regarding which flights and cabin classes are eligible is easy to find via QANTAS.COM. :D

I think you've been a tad unlucky but then I'm not a regular in business class.

There is no indication on whether this was business, PE or economy.

It's worked for me in both business and economy. In fact in economy all Select on Q - Eat meals were served first along with special dietary meals. (This was on QF127 in March.)

Maybe I've just been lucky in my travels so far. :p

I've had no problem with pre-ordering in the past and in fact when I was doing a Y trip to Singapore earlier this year, the FA seemed rather surprised that I had pre-ordered; appears most in Y don't.

I didn't realise Select on Q-Eat was available in economy. Looks like it's time to try it out in business on way over next month and return in economy.

So far I have enjoyed the online only option.

Yes, love_the_life, I reminded him.
Wonder how QF plans to or try at the least try to get it right and please those of us who still fly with them most of the time.
