"Select on Q-Eat" Fail

I didn't realise Select on Q-Eat was available in economy. Looks like it's time to try it out in business on way over next month and return in economy.

So far I have enjoyed the online only option.

Not available in economy in most flights back to oz ...

In fact in economy all Select on Q - Eat meals were served first along with special dietary meals. (This was on QF127 in March.)
That may have been the case and I know it happens, however it is not the "procedure". "Select on Q - Eat" meals are supposed to be delivered with the main meal service from the meal cart.

I know that any late seat changes can throw things out, which may be why some people don't receive their meals. Sometimes there are over 60 SoQE meals ordered in economy class, and each one needs to be manually processed by the crew, on top of the many special dietary meals, so it's no wonder the system is not perfect. Hopefully they will find a way to streamline it :)

It is a really good idea and the fact it is offered in Y is a real positive. If consistently delivered, should result in the classic win-win -- less waste and cost for the airline; increased choice for the passenger.

Not available on inbound flights to Australia in economy. You can see the list of eligible flights here.

Recently I had a points upgrade from economy to business clear at the gate and the flight attendant came by while I was settling in to confirm my pre-ordered meal in economy had in fact been loaded and to ask if I would still like it or if I'd like to go with the business class catering. No prizes for guessing which one I decided on. :p

A pretty stellar showing by Qantas I thought.

That is terrific - and quite sensible to still offer you your pre-selected meal (in case that's all you could eat). Out of interest - were you forewarned you may not get your choice in J? How did that actually pan out?

Not at all - the flight attendant was really lovely and in fact recommended I go with the business class catering as it was "much better". :p After I accepted she then asked if she could offer my pre-ordered economy meal to another passenger. The meal order was then taken as usual (front to back in our cabin) and I received my first choice for the entree and the main. At no time was I made to feel like I should've stuck with the economy meal or if I was taking someone else's business meal. The flight left SYD full in business class and I think they simply catered for every seat.

Apologies I missed that. I saw QF128 and thought it was available in economy as well. Not to worry.

If they have that pork dish I had ex-MNL in March then I would be extremely happy.

Wonderful! Thanks for the info.

We've only used it twice and had one success and one failure. The success was syd-jnb and the failure was jnb-syd. Miss FM and her partner used it on their recent trip to Singapore - no problems from Australia, but not loaded in Singapore. All the failures were the special dishes and all in J.

No fails here, but I found this little episode mildly amusing.

Round 1 and it’s all smiles.

FA: “ I see you’ve ordered on line - the beef dish?”

HT: “Yes, that’s right, the beef thanks.”

Round 2, a little later, with the smiles now slightly strained.

FA: “Just confirming, it was the beef you ordered?”

HT: “Yes, still the beef thanks.”

FA: “Oh it’s a very popular choice today.”

Round 3 and the smiles are now positively sardonic.

FA: “Are you quite sure you want the beef? You’re more than welcome to choose anything else on the menu.”

HT: “Thanks, but I think I’ll stick with the beef.”

I think you've been a tad unlucky but then I'm not a regular in business class.

Thanks for the insight. I was actually served first (with the special meals) as well. Although I wonder if that's because I was given the "online exclusive" meal (which I didn't actually order). Apparently I was the only passenger to get that meal.

My selection wasn't the online exclusive option but I was still served first (along with all the other passengers that had pre-ordered online or had requested a special dietary meal).

On our economy flight, I was given my selection first along with the special dietary meals - my partner didn't get his. Didn't worry too much and just waited for the normal trolley service.

We both got offered wine when I was served. And then again when he was served.

I was only offered a drink once the trolley came around. By this point I'd already finished eating 15 minutes ago!
