Seating "Together" Separate Bookings, varying Status

There was a long thread recently on this. The consensus to my reading seemed to be that:

Qantas can put a note on each booking, but it wont be properly "linked" for seating purposes, and an munitalP notes, the easiest is to do it at OLCI, by phone to QF in advance (allocating seperately to each PNR/booking), or at service desk/QP.

If what MarcB says is true, this is new as I tried to do this (link two PNRs on same flights) about three months ago and was unable.

Dredging up an old thread, but came up again for mrsdoc and myself booked on same (int) flight but on different bookings.

Online webassist linked the pnrs but couldnt/woundlt select seats and told me to sort it at the airport. I couldn't select seats online other than what is available to me (SG) and to mrsdoc (NB) which would have left us in row 22 to get a pair.

Solved with a phone call now have the best available SG-viewable pair (16EF for what it's worth - I did have 13B but no pairs left in mini-cabin).

Data point: A friendly Qantas phone agent was happy to allocate seats for my family next to me in the Platinum-passenger section of the aircraft. The family are on a separate booking and none have status (I'm a Platinum) so I thought that was a pretty nice gesture. The flights are domestic and in economy.

Yeah, i think the lesson is that the highest-ranking seat allocation/availability can be accessed, just not online.

Definitely possible, and the best plan of attack through the call centre. I've found previously to be able change seating online for entire TCP after being linked (through the phone call).

Previously, a booking the other way (2pax booked on some PNR) have the ability to "seperate" the bookings online in MMB. Have only seen this for domestic though.

In my limited dealings with Qantas and separate bookings when I've called to link bookings and mentioned seats they've always offered to move my wife and daughter next to me.

That's been for domestic bookings as we can still allocate bassinet for international.

I recently travelled with SWMBO (who is SG) and my 23 month old lad (travelling in lap). Seperate bookings were linked by the Premium Desk, but the agent was adamant that regardless my WP status, status of SWMBO would limit her seat allocations. I couldn’t access her seating from my own MMB, and her options were the same after linking.

I took what was given and then fixed it at T-80 with MMB open on two seperate browsers.

When it came to check in, which I initiated from my iOS QF app, I was able to check in ALL pax from my own booking, including generating the boarding passes and sharing through iOS to SWMBO.

Hope the info helps.

Cheers,
Matt.
