Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

, yes I was wondering rows 73 was available for a seat pre-allocation using the Qantas website, as one internet website suggests that row 73 is sometimes only allocted at the airport check-in.

I am a little suprised as to why people would chose row.....62.....for example, when they seemingly(?) had the option of a 2-seat row 73 and surprise that row 73 is still available 3 days out from departure on near full flights.

I'm sure there lies a method to the madness somewhere.
cheers

No real madness... typically the "pair seats" down the back of a QF 744 are available on a first come first served basis.

Rarely have I seen them specifically blocked.

This is where I get confused. Seat 73k is showing as still available on flights QF 15, 107 and 93 two days prior to departure.
On a full flight, surely seat 73K is more preferred then lets say, 62B (if traveling solo)? So why isn't 73K not snapped up by now?
Or in actuality, is it?
Seat Guru suggests row 73 is sometimes the last row to be allocated, what does this mean?

cheers

Take Seat Guru with a grain of salt - good for layout, but often the advice is incorrect or may differ from your opinion.

Qantas do not typically block these rear seat pairs from anyone. If they show as unavailable then they are likely to have already been snaffled.

Yes, they are popular seats (for some) but people's plans change and they move flights or it can be as simple as no-one with a booking on this flight wanted them. If you want them then take them.

Hi guys

Trying to work out what row 36 is on QF7 SYD-DFW (744 4 class but sold as 3).

Seatguru says Premium Economy.

Expert Flyer says Economy (but 2-4-2 config not 3-4-3, so is it saying Economy because it is sold as economy?)

Specific date I am looking for is 12 September, I have paid for Y ticket, currently allocated row 36. Is this a Premium Economy exit row seat?

Yup definitely whY+ exit row seat. Enjoy the long long trip

EF will tell you what cabin it's sold as - the seat layout may show a different story (as it is in your case). Enjoy your flight! :)

Flew economy class in 36B on QF7 last week. Nice seat! Next time I'll be trying 36A or 36K as the life raft cowling is far enough away (unlike economy) so as not to be an issue. (Was going to do this on QF8 coming back, but I swapped that and 72K QFF points for 1A.)

As for the redefinitions, look at this seat map:

Boeing 747-400ER: 14 First; 66 Business; 40 Premium Economy; 187 Economy

The seating type is configured by Row:

  • 1-4: First Seats
  • 11-30: Business Seats (Skybed)
  • 34-39:premium Economy Seats
  • 51-75:Economy Seats
For this route the seating is redefined & the "cabin" is configured by Row:

  • 1-26: Business
  • 29-35:premium Economy
  • 36-75:Economy
So those:

  • Business Class PAX in rows 1-4 get First Class Seats
  • Premium Economy PAX in rows 29-30 get Business Class seats
  • Economy PAX in rows 36-39 get Premium Economy seats.
  • All other seats rows are as per booking class
Note that starting later 2011, these aircraft are to be refitted into 3 class J/W/Y with the First Class seats removed, Skybed Mk II (Full Flat) installed for business class.

I'm travelling on QF15 from BNE to LAX on Sept 2 - flying Y (yay) . Travelling with 2 other mates as well, we all booked individually however.

I am WP, 1 mate is a paying QP member and the other... well, I dont think he is anything. I'm currently in 40A , the other 2 guys had to pay for seat selection so not sure where they are at because they didnt want to pay.. perhaps in the cargo hold.

My plan was to ring the premium desk and ask that the bookings be joined, and then ask nicely if they could sit us all together. Its been a while since I flew Y internationally, and was going to ring up to see if I could score an exit row, but from the reading I've done it looks like that unpublished benefit for WP's stopped a while ago. (interestingly the qantas seat map when I go to select seats is showing all exit rows as occupied)

Any suggestions on what would be a good row to sit in?

Cheers,
Hayden

QF51 & QF52 747 configuration

We are booked in Y in QF51 (Oct 4) and QF52 on the BNE-SIN leg. I understand these planes are 3 class J, Y+ & Y but I can't get the seating plan up on Seatguru. Right now I can get Row 38 on the BNE-SIN leg. What is the optimal rows on this plane configuration? Is this one of the planes that overflow Y into Y+? I am very tall so leg room is my prime concern.

As always thanks for your help

Count the seats across each row.

If, say row 38 pn the BNE-SIN leg is 2x4x2 then they are PE seats; otherwise 3x4x3 indicates economy.

Looks like its ordinary Y then. Does Row 38 on the 3 class have the cut away bulkhead similar to Row 40 on the 4 class 744?

Premium economy on QF005

Hi all,

we are travelling on QF005 to Frankfurt on 27/09/11 and I wanted to know if anyone can recommend which are the best Premium Economy seats on that flight.

I'm 198cm, so I'm not sure whether it would be a good idea to take two of the bulkhead seats available (35D - K), or whether to have seats in front of me for the room.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

:)

Just had a hasty booking made for me to LAX and don't think there are any decent seats left in Y.
SYD-LAX QF11 30/9/11 and LAX-SYD QF12 10/10/11
Can anyone tell me if I'm missing anything? I've put myself in 64K over and in 64A return. Hoping for the email about upgrading on points, but not getting my hopes up.:D

I know people who prefer 69D as there is no seat behind them and they can recline when they want. For the rest I can't see any other really good seats unless you want to pay for emergency exit.

You have a three class 744; Unfortunately, along with 29A/B, 35J/K have restricted leg room due to closets being directly in front of them.

Best seat pairs for leg room are 29J/K followed by30J/K, they are unallocated currently, but generally are only available to high status passengers at this stage. You may like to retry about a weeks before the flight.

Thanks for that - I did look at 69D, but I like to look out the window and dream!!!!!!
I'll see what happens as it gets closer - last time I flew this leg, 80A became available about 4 days before departure :D

If you subscribe to Expert Flyer you can create a seat alert for 80A or 80K on your specific flight so EF will email you immediately if it becomes available.
