Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

To be honest 4E was not that great. I was not too impressed with the seat at all. And I have done the old MKI Skybed a few times and that was a much better experience. Anyway it is good to try it out to form my own opinion.

I was curious why I was chosen to sit in First Cabin? Sure I am Platinum but according to a few on AFF my PCV is low. So how do they choose who gets moved? Is it those that do not have a seat number in the new config such as my 5J? And I was also only on an award.

So my curiosity got the better of me and I spent 5-10 minutes studying the passenger manifest as it was just left hanging up in the galley which was not staffed for the majority of the flight.

Out of the 12 seats in the First Cabin there were 2 FFPO, 8 FFPL, 1 FFGD and a SAPH. This was the one that totally stumped me which forms part of my questions above.

For the rest of the of the business cabin I did not take detailed notes but there were at least 2 FFPO that appeared to be solo travellers. So why where weren't they moved to First cabin? Does not make sense to me unless they were in lower cabin and moved up to business? There at least 10 FFPL and the rest FFGD and FFSL and there may have been a Bronze as well.

I am not sure if that list had the PCV on it and the galley was quite dark and I did not want to attract any more attention than was necessary.

It's actually 14 seats in the cabin - which makes it fairly cramped, and the layout is not good for privacy. with the pick of the bunch being row 1 and row 3 A/K. Other seats are very close to each other.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I understand, when F is sold as business class, at least the last row is 'free seating' - open to any business class passenger who is savvy enough to see the seat on the map and snag one.

Interesting to hear your views on why you preferred Mk1 business seat over the first class offering?

Apologies it is 14 seats.

I did not feel comfortable sitting in 4E. Felt like I was going to fall sideways. It was not really much more comfortable on 1/2 recline either.

We are all different. I don't want a flat 'bed'. I want a comfortable seat and if I feel like sleeping then I can sleep. MKI business class seats serve that purpose.

Any thoughts on good Y seats on CX A330-300 and 777-200?

if you have any oneworld elite status (ruby upwards) you can get exit rows for free.

otherwise, bulkheads are good (usually fairly decent legroom).

there aren't really any other 'good' seats on the 772... perhaps one of the seats at the back of each cabin on window where it narrow to a block of two rather than 3 seats.

Great tip about the exit row seats. Did not know that, will give it a shot. ADL-HKG flight is really full looking, but exit row is available.

I might try 39H (actually looks more like 39J) then, it's a bulkhead seat, without the priority seat warning. That's for the only 777 flight.

You may find a warning comes up when trying to select an exit row using QF status (which you must associate with the booking)... it often says something about a charge and ask if you are willing to proceed. You just click through anyway and the seat holds (no mention of any fees after that). No need to worry it will be taken off you - it always holds.

I only had the warning about being fit for exit rows, at least I didn't notice a specific mention of a fee.

It seems to be random. Sometimes you get the message and sometimes you don't. It was more to let you (or anyone else) know if you did get the message that you can proceed anyway and the seat selection will go through.

Re: Flight Availability/Loadings & Upgrade Probability Help Desk

Is there any way to tell whether a seat is already allocated or merely blocked out (for WPs etc)? I've been allocated 25A on QF93 next week, but wouldn't mind 24A or 24K. I ask as I understand (hope I've got it right) that blocked seats are released at T-80 - which is 2.20am  ! If they've already been allocated, I might as well sleep in.

What Day ... mind you, international flights are not generally subject to the t-80 philosophy ...

Your availability is the same as mine (mere SG).

And H? - I assume a typo? Oh well, it looks like I better hope for a visit from the upgrade fairies!

Thanks for checking this for me.

Random question for higher status QFF people (WP and above) - do you prefer the right (starboard) side of the plane?

737-1.png737-2.png

Just did some seat selections at T-80 and picked row 5 aisle for both (I hate row 4), but was surprised to see what I assumed to be WP blocks or preferences for seats DEF for rows 4 & 5 & maybe 6. Could be just chance but perhaps there is another reason that I don't know about. This is for a 737 (obviously) to and from Sydney/Brisbane if that helps.

I have seen this on occasion but not that often. My preference is 4D but occasionally the right side is blocked so settle for 4C instead. Couldn't care where the sun is located as it is not going to bother me that much on short flight.

Since you are sliding off topic, I'll say that I prefer the sunny side of the plane as I'm often cold and it's usually warmer.

Ok, I've been touched by the upgrade angel. Yahoo!

The only seats available are in Emerald City - 11A, 12E, 13F, 13J.
Seatguru says 11A is close to bar etc and is bothersome. Is it? Is it up against a bulkhead or something?

Which should I pick? I've NEVER been so far forward and am totally stoked :)!

EDIT: Picked 12E - after searching, I liked serfty's comment of "middle seats are better as no-one needs to climb over or be climbed over."
