Hi,

So today I flew SFO-SYD in economy, however managed to snag a PE seat due to being a gold FF at the time of flying. The flight actually took me over 1400 SC so now I'm a Platinum FF - Yay!

In 3 weeks I have SYD-SFO and see that the PE seats are again open to allocation for economy class customers. I'm travelling on that trip with my girlfriend who is a silver FF, so she is unable to select the PE seats at this stage. (We are travelling on 2 different bookings). 2 weeks ago I rang up to see if she could be seated next to me, with the guy on the phone saying no he couldnt "click" her name onto the seat, therefor it cant be done. Conversation over in about 2 minutes.

Having done a bit of research on here I see a few people saying ask for the request to be put through to the seating allocation team.. is this something I should do in this situation? The guy on the phone was nice when I rang, however didn't seem to want to help too much. Simply said I could sit there becuase I was gold, however too bad for my travelling partner.

Now that I'm platinum will I have any more success in getting this request applied?

SYD-SFO is a long way in an economy seat!

Can't help with your question, but enjoy the Plat status! :)

Call Qantas and ask them to "TCP" the two bookings. You will need to provide the two booking reference numbers. TCP (Total Customers in Party) is a way of linking multiple PNRs so the systems know you are travelling together. This does not merge the PNRs and each passenger will retain their own PNR, but they will be linked for seating purposes.

I’d think doing as NM has suggested would help, that is what I would have suggested, had I not been beaten to the punch. Good luck!

Does that just join the flights where the 2 bookings exist with each other? Or do you need to specify each flight number for them to be joined on?

The reason I ask is i've flown the first leg of my trip and my SYD-SFO will be the return leg, whereas the other booking is a LONE4

I've had the exact same situation before. One booking on points, the other a revenue ticket.

Many many phone calls, they can link the ints but cannot put seating together for status reasons. Like in some way it was impossible for them to do so.

What I did was asked them to block the seat next to me, which was done, and I simply called up 24 hours out and put them in the blocked seat next to me.

You need to remember that those seats are blocked for a reason - to protect those who spend the most with QF. The only way to avoid it is to book them @ the same time with QF sales where they can waive a magic wand. Of course you'll pay for that privledge ;)

I was recently successful in having entire family on 2 different bookings seated together SYD-AKL. Shrek and I booked classic award tickets on 1 booking, both WP. Booked little Shreks on paid tickets using eldest tweens NB number. Called Qantas Premium twice without any luck. Initially able to allocate Shrek and myself to row 4 (in Y) on Manage my booking. Kids only able to seat in row 9 or back. Offered by QF to move us all back to row 9. I said no thanks. Asked to speak to supervisor, stated I would cancel and re-book. Result whole family seated in row 4 and 5 DEF

I would persist in asking to be seated together - I've been in a similar situation, SG flying with a PS for one international leg of a journey.

All I did was select my seat online, then phone QF - ask for the PNRs to be linked on that sector, and ask for the PS to be moved to a seat that was not available to a PS. I was placed on hold for about 5 minutes while they did it.

Firstly you should be able to at least TCP the two bookings.

What you can try is to call again (during East Coast business hours) and ask for a request to be made to "seating" in line with your desire. As an SG it may be approved or it may not; I have certainly been able to do similar as a WP (~ 2 years ago with non status PAX on separate bookings).

Wondering if anyone has had any luck with this lately? I have a number of bookings coming up where I have booked on points and travelling partners have booked on a full revenue ticket - and we would like to try and sit together (and possibly use platinum status to select good seats).

I've had success twice in the last few months. Phoned up, gave them the other PNR and bang, companion sitting next to me.

I also had to book my daughter on an award ticket, the phone agent, booked the award flight, upgraded my seat to J (J redemption was all that was available), then linked all the seating there and back so we were together, then waived the phone assistance fee as I couldn't do it myself online!

Was absolutely no issue for them to do it.

as late as last week I was able to get a NB friend of mine allocated 11B from SYD to LHR with me WP in 11A from SYD to SIN. Had allocated my seat first and then called QF for his seat.

Does this concept of TCP apply to all airlines? We are travelling as a family on TG next year but each have our own PNR as the flights were bought using points from our individual US Airways dividend miles accounts. Should I ring TG and ask them to TCP our four PNRs?

I would give it a go, no harm in trying ;)

I've had success with this recently also. I've got 2 NB's sitting with me in row 12 on the A380 MEL-LAX. They had to be sent to seating but it took less than 30 minutes.

Hi ozmille and QF029, did you have to pay anything extra for the seat selection for the NB pax? I tried calling the platinum desk today and they wanted to charge me something for this privilege?

is your travel partner NB and flying in Y? As my friend is in J they did not charge.

Ah yes....good point - did not consider this! Probably the reason why...

I just remembered that not so long ago I called for my NB cousin who was travelling whY to reval the ticket and got them to allocate a seat free of charge as well. Maybe give them a call again tomorrow between 9 and 5 when the WP desk is open and try your luck again.

I have enjoyed some success with linking bookings. It's a bit complicated but....

Flights were BNE-HKG (A330) connecting to HKG-LHR (B744) in late June.
Self (WP) + Miss AusATC (NB) on 1 PNR (YASA) - able to preselect row 23 on A330 and Row 40 on B744. Mrs AusATC (PG) was travelling on a separate PNR (paid with $$). A call to QFF and I was able to have the PNRs linked and seat allocation in Row 40 on the B744 for Mrs AusATC (as a SG she could see Row 23 on the A330 but nothing ahead of about row 48 on the B744).

Miss AusATCs best friend subsequently joins us for the trip. I call QFF and get the additional PNR linked and a request for her to sit with us in Row 40 (too young to fly separately). This time it takes many weeks and numerous phone calls, but eventually the request comes through. We are now all together in Rows 23/24 in the A330 and 40D-G in the B744.

And to top it all off, we were all op-upped to PE from HKG to LHR!!
