Surely the fare classes are mentioned because those are the "classic" awards as opposed to the any seat awards which have a different earning structure ie status and points.

Any Seat Awards appear to book straight in to revenue fare classes - from a very quick search of a few different flights, I got the following results:

Any Seat fare descriptionFare class
Saver LiteU
SaverT, Q, E
FlexiL, H
Premium SaverO, R
PremiumW
Business SaverD, I
BusinessC

+ am sure there are other fare buckets used; Any Seat just seems to be converting points to dollars.

But they are still rewards. So my point being that velocity rewards in X, Z and what ever only earn status and rewards in other fare class earn points and SC. So fare codes mentioned to precisely distinguish what will be earnt.

Not a good start to the promo - booked a J class last week (16 Jan) traveled a couple of days ago, flight posted as
Cairns-Sydney (Not Valid For Earn) DJ1426 - no status credits.
Called, the rep I spoke to at Plat desk had no idea what I was talking about, also had no idea if it would post later or not, told me to check in a couple of weeks........
Interested to hear if anyone has had status credits post.

Well I tried to change a MEL-CBR-SYD booking yesterday. It was like pulling teeth... through a wire fence... at night... with a pliers made of jello.

All I wanted to do was move the flights to an earlier time.
First agent told me that Velocity can't do this and transferred me to bookings.
That agent put me on hold for 15 mins then cold transferred me to Velocity.
The agent there was very nice and tried oh so hard to be helpful, but this was hampered by the fact that she seemed to have a memory buffer in her brain that could only store the current sentence, pushing all previous conversation out each time.

She initially said I could change to an earlier flight. Then after 10 mins on hold came back with new flight numbers, one arriving in CBR at 9:35am AND the next departing at 9:35 am. I pointed out that I probably wouldn't make the connection(!) and she "saw my point". More lengthy hold times and unworkable options. Then one that will work, albeit with a lengthy stay in the CBR lounge. One catch, there's no reward availability in J for my return SYD-MEL leg. I pointed out that I'm not changing that leg and even if they cancel the booking it should free up my seat and make it available. She said someone might take it in the time it takes to rebook, I accepted that risk.
We went ahead, more long hold times. Then I'm told that the booking can't be made. She offers an alternate where I leave Canberra BEFORE I arrive. It's been over an hour on the phone now so she offers to sort it out and call me back.

On the call back she tries a few more itineraries but can't get them to work, keeps getting the cities wrong, offering direct or PM flights instead of AM despite my saying multiple times it HAD to be an AM return and via CBR on the way out.
It becomes apparent that this isn't going to work so I ask her to back out and just give me my original itinerary. She says it's not available as she cancelled mine and can't rebook it.
After moving my return leg to a later time (which would make me late for work) she then told me that it would cost 50,000 points to rebook!! (originally was 27600 +$68). After I expressed surprise she asked if I prefer to just pay 27600 +$68. Obviously I said yes. More lengthy hold time. On return she advises that it'll be 41400 +$68 to rebook my original itinerary. I told her I could simply rebook it online for the original cost! She said that was all she could offer. At this point I asked for a supervisor. Another 15 mins on hold to have the supervisor tell me the same 41k nonsense. I explained how nonsensical this all was and eventually she caved and offered to rebook the original itinerary.
Almost 3 hours on the phone :/

So all they actually managed to really do was cancel your flight.... Virgin FAIL!!

+1

I've been a vocal VA fan but that is just stupidity on behalf of VA. I really really hope they get their act together sooner rather than later.

I hope you repeat this story in feedback direct to Velocity! Crazy!

I know I'm risking the wrath of Karma and I do apologise lobo76, but I had to laugh at this story. You wasted 3 hours of your life and ended up in the exact same position!

Does anyone get the feeling VA has totally lost direction with the Sabre move? I know it was necessary, but it seems to have sucked the life out of them.

There certainly seems to be lots of negatives, glitches and limitations! Haven't had to actually book a flight yet though!

Spoke to the Plat desk again today. Mary was vaguely optimistic about the future.. However far away that is... :!:

No apology necessary, my partner was in stitches listening to the call. All she could hear was stuff like:
"No AM"
"No departing Canberra, arriving Melbourne"
"No AM"
"But that would have me departing BEFORE I arrive!"
"No AM, it really needs to be an AM arrival"
"Wait, you've canceled it already?!?"
"There's no availability on the flight you just cancelled me off?!?"
"How many points?!"

Just noticed that I have had 10 SC's credited to my account for a reward flight my wife made a couple of weeks back (I have family pooling turned on). Interesting since the reward seat was booked prior to the promotion being announced so this seems based on travel dates and not booking dates :)

This is very normal for VA.

I think on about 4 or 5 occasions I've had bonus SCs credited for promos that stated a specific booking period but I'd already booked before the promo was announced. With one last year I even got it twice and it was supposed to be a one time thing. Good old days pre-Sabre obviously.

Same thing happened to me last week on BNE-CBR-BNE booked on points way before promo announced, hope they keep it up as I have a few in the next couple of months and the extra SC's would be a nice bonus!

Sweet. I booked a reward J flight OOL-MEL for 30 March yesterday.

Just booked 2 x return international (premium reward) Y+ for 40200 (no cash) if my maths is right then that should be after family pooling a total of 360 status points. I think that is a good return!!:):)
