I've already booked our accommodation for Skye, and even then I had to change a date because they were booked out 11mths in advance.

I have not booked any Scottish Accommodation yet for trip May, apart from the ship that is.

Have you had any problems apart from Skye (that I do not need)?

I've only booked 4 B&Bs, Dufftown, Urquhart, Eileen of Doonan and Skye and no issues other than changing a date for Skye.

I have noticed other bookings being made for the same period, April,so thought I should get in early.

Haven't booked anything for Edinburgh or Glasgow, loch Lomond, Aberdeen, St Andrews yet.

Thank you.

I have only made a couple of non-Scottish accommodations booked to date and so need to start sussing out options. I think I have firmed up pretty well on my itinerary enough now (which is a bot different from what I posted above) to allow me to more meanigfully look at where I will be in Scotland and on what nights. London in April for 3 nights when we arrive from MEL as there was an attractive earlybird deal for hotel walking distance of the theatres. And in Dublin in May for the for 3 nights just prior to our start our cruise to Scotland, which looks to be quite expensive for what you get, where we have booked a very a very popular and quirky oval shaped AirBnb apartment (which is walking distance to most of the main sights in Dublin).

Following your gin samples post, http://www.australianfrequentflyer....photos/the-view-from-my-office-63414-699.html, you might like to also think-about Glengoyne Distillery just 40 minutes from Glasgow with plenty of scenic opportunities.

The distillery's tours a generally less expensive than others with plenty of samples. Oh and it's not a bad drop too.

From our experience over two trips, 1-2 months out is adequate to book accommodation. Just don't leave 'till on the road as some do in the spirit of serendipity and adventure, personally which we think is madness. But YMMV.

Any suggestions for St Andrews for one night as Im currently looking at the Old Course Hotel for one night, at approx £350GBP

Yea that's not bad. The Fairmont is also a nice hotel with excellent restaurants.

OK - I'm in Gretna Green so although it's tacky I'm in Scotland. My planning for this trip is slightly in disarray because I've had a lurgy which meant that I didn't get to start planning until much later than I planned and lots of places I'd like to stay are booked out. I much prefer self catering but will end up in a few hotels but that's OK - once I've got everything sorted and start my travelling tomorrow I'll try and post where I go in a new thread.

My favourite gin right now (and I've put a lot of friends onto it, who agree it's rather nice!) is Caorunn. Looks like they offer distillery tours also, so suggest a stop if you make it work: https://www.caorunngin.com/caorunn-gin/book-a-gin-tour/

I had one last night with apple (not sure that apple is the right thing to have with it) - and I've become a gin snob after visiting here https://thelondonginclub.com/find-us/ and talking to the staff. I like to taste my gin before they put the tonic in and the one I had last night had way too much tonic.

One place I went to in the Cotswolds served their tonic from a post mix in a small carafe (and the carafe was still warm) sacre bleu
