OK. IME They tend to have specials closer to the dates, especially on the XEs.

One thing to note, if you hire through Avis Prestige in Scotland or England, they will deliver and pick up from hotels at no extra charge. We have a hire in September and they have a meet and greet service at LHR as well and meet you after customs, saving the hassle of getting to the car hire places with your luggage.

Thanks and good to know. Was hoping to pick up in Edinburgh city. We land approx 7am so the plan is to go to hotel, walk around/relax, spend the night and the next day get a car and start heading north.

If I can get delivery in Edinburgh city, that would be a big plus.

They delivered one of ours to the Sheraton in Edinburgh and picked it up from another hotel in Glasgow.

Today I booked a couple of B&Bs, Ive never stayed in a B&B before, because dummy booking showed one was already booked out.

Isle of Skye: B&B Dunvegan Guesthouse & Self Catering Accommodation at Carters Rest Isle of Skye
Hubby might do a sunrise and sunset photography tour here. Picked this B&B because Neist Lighthouse is nearby and hubby wants to do sunset and milky way photography.

Eilean Donan Castle Apartments
Eilean Donan - Kyle of Lochalsh, Scotland
Apparenty they light up the castle at night (photo op) and the apartments are across the road.

and Dufftown. 3 nights here because lots of whisky (he has to drink my share as well) and castles.
Highland Spirit B&B | No.1 Trip Advisor | Malt Whisky Trail

Glenfiddich: Visit the Glenfiddich Distillery. Fully Explore Single Malt Whisky.
Pioneer Tour Taste:
Glenfiddich 12 Year Old
Glenfiddich 15 Year Old
Glenfiddich 18 Year Old
Glenfiddich 21 Year Old
Glenfiddich Cask Sample

Highly recommend the Glenfiddich Pioneers Tour. Yes it is expensive but very interesting and the 200ml bottle of 30year whiskey delicious.

This is the one he wants to do, which means unless I can find him a Glenfiddich buddy, Im going to have to do it as well and he drinks my 5 glasses of whisky as well as his share. Gotta find a booze buddy for him :)

Was in scotland with family last month.

download here wego maps to your phone as ALL the mobile companies are sheet once out of any decent size town.

the historic scotland explorer pass can save you quite a bit of money. gives you 7 days of access over 14 days. use it for edinburgh and stirling castles and you pretty much get all other sights for free.

Weather isn't so great today!

i thoroughly recommend doing a tour at the Glengoyne distillery if you are in Glasgow.

I wanted to do the master class but missed out.

This is why I dont feel bad about going to Scotland in April. Im expecting rain and cold, if its anything better than that then win for us. Going in June/July and getting rain and cold would be slightly disappointing.

Confirmed my B&Bs today, upgraded Eilean Donon Castle stay from the apartments to the detached cottage with multiple views of castle. Im told they light up the castle at night so that will make hubby happy for photos.

Well may they light up the castle at night, but will you be able to see that far in the fog? :)

Ha. Hubby can take a photo for me and bring it back - Im not leaving the cottage.

I posted this review for Loch Ness Lodge elsewhere but its too funny not to to share again:

The best thing to do with this hotel is to turn it into a hospice for the terminally ill as it would encourage people to die quicker.

Lochs have tides? I thought they were fresh water lakes?

Not all. Scots word for a lake or for a sea inlet. So loch is just a body of water. Loch Diuch leads to Loch Alsh then into the Atlantic eventually.
