And just remember Glasgow isn't flat - I looked at google maps - yep 10 minute walk from the railway station to the Novotel but it was all uphill :(

We enjoyed Troon even though it didn't feel like one of the two days of summer.

My husband wants to photograph Dunnottar castle at dawn and as I dont fancy a 30-45min drive in the dark from Aberdeen, we're going to stay 1 night at a nearby (9klms) B&B named Chapel of Barras: chapel-of-barras

Thought I better get back into planning this trip and need a hotel for one night in St Andrews.

Looked at the Old Golf Course but some of the rooms are $$$$ and we dont care about golf at all. Need place that either has parking or valet parking.

Found this place. Husband says he wont be able to sleep if we got this room. I think its really cool, for one night.

Would drive us mad as well!

We stayed at the Fairmont property. Was happy with it and they have valet parking for the Jag.. (Fairmont have various promotions if you Google.)

btw: Not sure if I've mentioned it but if you hire the Jag from Avis Prestige they will drop it off and pick it up from a hotel at no extra charge. Makes it much easier.

Yeah, that Jag is looking more and more probable ;)

I know I looked at the Fairmont so will revisit for pricing. Thanks!

I'd definitely stay there just for the photo opportunity.

I'm finally back home after six months away and will get my Scotland TR finished sometime soon(ish

Looks like my reply got caught up in the quote - my excuse jet lag, a cold and a tenant that didn't leave the house as I left it ;)
Well, I’m just replying to reach 3 million AFF posts!

Ok, 3K but still...

So, what pearls were you sharing with us? Ah, I see, you edited it. Excellent!

Is that a jag? Should I wake hubby from his nap and show him/ask ;)

I'm sold on the hotel!

Booked the Fairmont St Andrews for one night.

Any tips I should know about? I read something about booking the Manor House for breakfast before check in but cant find anything on why I should want to have breakfast there.

It’s a way out of town so do a walk around St Andrews before you arrive or in the arvo then retire to the hotel. Dinner in the seperate grill (whatever it’s called - 5 minutes walk or by buggy) on the property is excellent. Breakfast at the hotel is also excellent.

A visit to this for a couple of hours is interesting - Scotland's Secret Bunker

Trying to book 1 night in Glencoe but already turned back by 2 B&Bs and a hotel, because its a min 2 or 3 night stay.

And, its not like the places looked fantastic either. Only one looked good and the rest looked like 80s motel where furniture was brought at a discount pine place.

Try contacting the local tourist bureau because they often have places that aren't on the web and they're often cheaper

Thing is, he wants castles. Lots of castles. And dawn and sunset and roads meandering in valleys.

I told him the other day, if we get the Jag, he wont be driving. After his hissy fit, I reminded him that its his job to look out the window and spot places he wants to stop/see, its my job to make sure we dont die in a firey ball of death.
