medhead,Then again didn't they used to say the annoucement was a government requirement. I guess subtlely is better than that.
medhead,
The safety briefings are a CASA requirement. The actual text, inclusive of certain items, is up to the airline.
Subtly is about as correct as it gets. All aircraft, like all cars can be a little different though often the difference is VERY minor in nature. Sometimes they are more substantial for example the emergency exits on a 737-800 are different to the earlier 737's.
Or there is my sarcastic answer - "really 737-800s are different to earlier 737 models, who would have thought it"![]()
Actually it more like "... a single waist strap the ends of which clip together ..." ...Ihave always likes the single waist strap that clips together. It's a single thing - you can't clip a single thing together!

It's a single band ...
This lifejacket is the type that has a single waist strap that clips together and tightens as shown
Fully agree; I just got off of a flight where I verified that.Maybe that's what it should say, but...
Does the average flyer know or care about the differences between a 737-400 and a 737-800? Perhaps a better example would have been the variations between 767's, or that the seat layout on 747-400's is different, and the same seat number could have you in different relative positions to the exits.
Civil Aviation Order 20.11 (14) refers. http://www.casa.gov.au/download/orders/Cao20/2011.pdf (page 7 is appropriate)As I remember the safety briefings used to say that we had to watch them because it is a government requirement. So that was the text by the airline referring to the CASA requirement.
A lot of people don't have the back ground or the knowledge so it is often appropriate to explain it for their benefit.BTW I do actually understand all about CASA and all that - relative who spent some time flying 4 engine aircraft around europe, after a time working with the german correctional system he then went on to a long career with the predecessors of CASA.
What is subtle to the one a year flyer is often common knowledge to the frequent flyer. The definition or understanding of subtle will vary dependant upon perspective or knowledge. As for the subtlely it applies to every aircraft - literally that means every 737-800 is subtlely different. Also IMO a substanial difference as per your example is not subtle. EDIT: (Does the subtle different change the safety things like brace and emergency lights etc. If not why mention it) Just to clarify why I thing it is a silly reason to give for watching the briefing.
Agreed :!: :shock:Or there is my sarcastic answer - "really 737-800s are different to earlier 737 models, who would have thought it"![]()
Apologies if needed. My reading of you post was that it was stated in all seriousness and so that's how I responded. Not that I don't appreciate your guidance, just thought it was in a slightly more serious tone than my post intended.![]()
There was an attractive (aren't they all!) looking FA walking down the aisle towards the camera ....
Nor, necessarily, was the FA for that matter; remember this was a video recorded to show PAX before take-off.You obviously weren't flying Qantas!![]()
You obviously weren't flying Qantas!![]()
Now that I commuting SYD-BNE once a week I have been noticing there are more flight attendants on QF flights that are young and very attractive. You obviously weren't flying Qantas!![]()

Almost every operator (big & small) that I'm aware of, and there are quite a few, use words along the line of 'This briefing is a safety and a regulatory requirement.'Truely, I'm not disputing the fact that it is a government requirement. I'm saying that telling me I have to watch the view because the government make them show the video is a stupid reason.
They are saying, in polite terms that the aircraft may be different to the last one and/or the next one that you fly. Look at the differences now as they may save you life, rather than looking if or when you have an emergency because you probably will not have the time to work it out during the emergency.I would say that what is subtle is well defined in many dictionary. In most cases the differences are not subtle - certainly the difference that will effect safety. If the difference is subtle, I question what effect the difference will have on safety. In a potential emergency, I'm not going to stop to notice that the lights leading to the exit are on the seats not the floor.
That's what they are saying, but politely so as not to scare people that may be already apprehensive about flying.Again IMO a stupid reason. A good reason would be - watch this because it just might safe your life.
Definitely the wrong guy :!: It has a lot more to do with my employment and where I work.No apologies needed, I was probably taking your ID (straitman) too literally - i.e. the straight man in a comedy duo.![]()
