from news.com.au:

EUROPE'S largest low-cost airline Ryanair is looking at the possibility of getting passengers to carry their luggage all the way to the plane, cutting out the need for baggage handlers.

I've given up being interested in what Ryanair is thinking of doing, or their fearless leader is posturing to the media. It's all about getting Ryanair into the news headlines - nothing more.

Any sane traveller who thinks about the concept of "deliver your own bag to the plane" for more than 5 seconds should realise the pitfalls it will cause.

Then again, the butt-head in charge of Ryanair (Micheal ‘Bed and Blow jobs’ O'Leary) doesn't seem to be the smartest person around.

Don't get me wrong, I hate the guy as much as the next person, but as for business smarts I'd say he has it all. Think about it,

- fly them or not we all know who RyanAir is
- they get heaps of free publicity from the world wide media
- they haven't damaged their brand to the point that people no longer want to deal with them. They are still getting pax, and they are still getting suppliers all willing to deal with them warts and all.

Me personally, I'll never fly them, but as I said to my Dad a few weeks ago, I'm over the novalty of flying, when I now fly I want something with the bells and whistles.

What is Ryanair going to thinlk of next? Getting rid of the engines and asking people to pedal in flight to generate the power for take-off and to keep the aircraft in the air....

I have this vision JK - something like BNE drinkeis but the board of Ryan Air each Thursday over a pint of Guinness or two..

"Er - what 'air brain'd scheme cana we com up with tis week Mr. O'Leary? Perhaps we could be charging for da air tey breatn?"

"Oh to be sure to be sure..."

"Ok Mr. O'Leary, I'll be calling my news paper friends..."

"Oh to be sure to be sure..."

Mr!

If it gets them a headline or two, they'd probably consider it ;)

Airlines could charge to use toilet, fine overweight passengers

And its still making news headlines. From news.com.au:

AIR passengers could soon be slapped with charges to use the loo as carriers ponder extreme revenue-raising to counter flagging profits.

Other options being considered by low-cost carriers include fines for overweight passengers and steps to make people carry their own luggage to the plane.

Passengers already cop extra fees for everything from luggage to meals, seats with extra leg room and in-flight entertainment.

The cynic in me thinks that journalists could be getting money on the side everytime an article written about Ryanair appears in the newspaper. ;)
