Rumours: CX to ditch OW for *A?

I'd think SQ might put their foot down and say no way to this one. I don't see CX leaving but they might get a bit cranky about OW adding another airline in China as it's too big a market to let Star Alliance and Skyteam snap up all the airlines there.

Dunno about anyone else - just don't see this happening. Happy to be proven wrong, but v sceptical of this coming from Ben Sandilands..

That would put a dent into Oneworld in Asia if that rumour were to be true. Although that dent may not be so bad with MH coming on board.

I cannot imagine that this will be the case. But if it does it is a huge blow to OW. There will be no Chinese carrier at all in OW, not to mention a loss of an excellent airline.

With Air China already a member of *A and Shenzhen Airlines set to join next year it going to get very crowded.

I guess anything is possible. But I find to hard to see both Shenzhen and Cathay being in *A.

Don't Cathay and Air China (or one of the other big *A China carriers?) have a substantial cross holding in each other?

... or i may have imagined that.

I think Air China own c. 30% of Cathay, and Cathay own c. 20% of Air China.

I had a conversation on Monday with a friend of mine. We talked about abandoning OW in favor for DJ's new "What ever it is"

We both agreed that QF has been flushed down the toilet by the moron at the top, but my view on staying with QF as an elite was solely based on the fact that CX recognize it and I would actually fly them in preference to QF. If CX was to leave I would have a huge problem with staying loyal with OW. I would hope the high up's in OW recognize this and work to keep them. Although given they are in the midst of AA "lack of service" dom, I suspect they will miss the issue.

WOW, this did turn into a bit of a rant didn't it!

Was only 12 or so years ago that CX were in bed with Ansett and their pre * alliances, would not be surprised if it came to pass!

Swap CX for SQ and I'll moan, but not be completely upset. CX fare structures are often more inline with my lifestyle!

I also like CX J and F prices ex Bkk. Would be sad to see them leave OW but maybe this a part of the Qantasia strategy?

Maybe Jetstar in all of its forms will replace them in Asia. ;)

I just don't see CX leaving One World. Also if I were Singapore or Thai, would not be to keen on them joining Star Alliance.
But who knows!

CX would have massive bargaining power, if they left JAL would be the only major east Asian airline in the group. Geographically having a HKG partner makes sense.

Loss of CX would be a big blow event if they were replaced with MH. Quite frankly oneworld needs a quality south east Asian partner in the stable even if CX stays.

However low representation in growth markets of China and India must be a worry for oneworld.

 CX is my carrier of choice BKK-SIN (and generally any other destinations they service from here) and their specials are great for BKK-HKG etc. Forget J* - too difficult negotiating baggage and needing to collect luggage for ongoing flights is a huge PITA - they are indeed my "last resort".

I hope it's just a rumour - at this point we don't even know if Qantasia is going to be a "Full Service" or LLC carrier. So at this point in time, they aren't even under consideration for my needs, regardless of what they're saying.

Would make it a lot simpler for Qantas' premium asian airline, lot less toes to tread on, but still better the devil you know than one that is planned...
