Regarding the BNE QP, I agree it can be very crowded, especially with the closure of half for the new J lounge, but still, you can't get free drinks in the concourse :D.
However paying for them outside may well be a lot quicker than waiting in line for the freebies inside :!:

Depends upon your priorities really. :D

Just do what I do, get two at a time, and then be drinking the second whilst lining up for the next two.

Gold Coast Lounge Closure

On 1 August 2008, the Gold Coast Qantas lounge will close.

Qantas will officially cease services to the Gold Coast from 1 August 2008, with the last service operating between Sydney and the Gold Coast on 31 July.

Hardly surprising :(

I wonder if NZ will jump in now and 'announce' a new Koru Lounge at Coolangatta?

Will be interesting to see if there will be further QP closures...

Cheers

On that same page this line is disconcerting:

A new Oberoi lounge is planned for Terminal 2B and is due to open late August 2008.

I may have cause to go to Mumbai in September and I can almost guarantee that August 20088 will mean July 2009 ;)

my BF just texted me from Sydney Domestic terminal. He is in the plat/business class lounge this morning. His initial thoughts are: Larger than he thought, not too crowded (even for a 6.30am Monday) Not a big enough food area.
I wonder if the melb one is open at the other end?

Does the one at MKY still exist? Was it ever a QF lounge? I've walked past it so often and wondered what is in there. Has anyone ever been there?

Went into Sydney Business one this morning. Spread out a bit more, similiar food, no kids [yes] Nothing out of the ordinary really.

Sure does, its two rooms (one a toilet) directly behind the check in counters with a small self serve bar, very similar to the old ROK QP but half that size.

Yep most definately. Was in there a couple of weeks ago and as others have said it is basically one room with a bathroom right behind the QF/JQ check-in counters.

There are plenty of QF Dash 8 coming in a out of MKY, particularly those still doing the milk-run routes (MKY-TSV-CNS plus others up the coast from BNE) for the mining companies to warrant this lounge, although similar to the LST one, everything is self serve, inc alcohol which is great.

Also, from what I can remember it is actually called the "Coral Sea lounge" as it is a part of the QantasLink lounge network - similar to those like in Kalgoorlie, Launceston, Coffs Harbour etc.

And before you say there is no lounge in Coffs Harbour - you are wrong! All you have to do is ask!

Unfortunately that has not been the case in Brisbane business lounge on Friday and Sunday this week. There were a few children in there, some unsupervised, and they hog the desktops to play games on the internet. There are only 4 desktops in there and I wanted to use the internet urgently before the flight but I had to wait for a desktop to become available.

Brisbane QP is the only lounge where I have seen kids kicked off the computers when playing games. I got a felling there is or was a sign there about kids not using them to play games (but I could have read that somewhere else!)

Not sure why the PCs get much use these days in the QP other than for the printers, notice in Officeworks yesterday one of the Asus laptops with WIFI for $350 (linux based), being a 7" screen not exactly adding much to the carry on and a handy way to check the net in a flash.

Back on topic it looks like OOL is the only one closing for now!

I don't blame the kids, I blame the parents who let their kids get on to the internet in the lounges, especially lounges that only have a few desktops for internet access. I probably should have said something to the front desk but the flight was delayed and I had a bit more time up my sleeve.

The Mackay one is not a QF lounge. It has the Qf logo but is operated by another company. My Partner tried to get in as WP flying virgin and was politely told I didnt have access as it was not a QF club.

It's a QantasLink lounge. As a result, it is an "associated lounge" rather than a Qantas Club and Anytime access is normally not applicable (does depend on the staff at times!). Same deal with Qantas Club invites etc.

yep correct, although my past few times of flying from MKY have been with either QF or JQ so a flash of the WP card and I am buzzed in.

AFAIK there are no J flights into and out of MKY? I know QF have put 1 jet service on but I dont know what config the aircraft is.
