[Rumor from QF CSAs] Qantas to bring back online mASA's?

Red Roo, thanks for your response. That was the number I called (the intl one, as I was ringing from AKL) and the responses I received were as outlined above. I will try again and hopefully it will be third time lucky.

I have previously booked a few mASAs over the phone and had no issues.

We haven’t made any changes to the way in which you book Any Seat Awards in classes X, Z, U or P. Members can still call 1300 366 587 (dial in +61 2 8222 2430 from outside Australia) to book. Our Contact Centre team have been advised that there has been no change to this process.

Red Roo I wonder if I could ask a question about the terms and conditions of Any Seat Awards in classes X, Z, U or P. I have a few booked prior to the change to phone bookings only and the T&C'*s are quite clear. I have noticed that a few people here have made bookings since the change and the Terms and Conditions* are not so clear. Is there anything we should be asking the call centre staff about the T&C's?*

*i.e. cancellation and ticket changes specifically

Check your emails - domestic are back....

Dear David
Take off with greater flight options when flying in Australia
We're excited to announce the next stage of improvements to the way you search for cash and Award fares on qantas.com.^ From today you have greater visibility of Qantas & Partner Classic Awards[SUP]Ω[/SUP] when flying within Australia as they will now appear alongside our cash fares - providing you with greater choice when selecting the right flight for you.
For the first time, you can also combine Classic Award with an Any Seat Award˜ or cash fare[SUP]+[/SUP] in the same booking if you're flying within Australia.[SUP]#[/SUP] For example, you can choose a Classic Award for your flight out, and a cash fare for the flight back.[SUP]β[/SUP] You also have the ability to view all cash fares in points simply by ticking 'View in Points' at the top of the flight results.

For greater flexibility, you can now book domestic Classic Awards up to 2 hours prior to departure when booking on qantas.com.*

If you wish to see more Classic Awards options available to you such as Classic Awards for outside of Australia, bookings with multiple destinations or with our partner airlines, then simply select 'Show Classic Awards' on the search panel at the start of your search.

When you're on the go, you can now book Classic Awards on your mobile phone. Visit qantas.com on your mobile or download the Qantas app available now for both iOS and Android devices.

Experience a new way to search at qantas.com or learn more about our Award booking options.

Sage advice I think, come 26th of Sept or thereabouts we may find out, then again we may not, the whole saga seems to have had a flexible timeline, indicating some changes in the flow of management thinking along the way.

It looks that way.

I was hoping the simple Any Seat awards would make a re-appearance online but I feel Qntas will throw all of it out and keep current Any Seat awards available.

The terms and conditions of ASAs haven't changed, however if you have a specific example, please send me a private message with your details and I'd be happy to review.

PM sent regarding the proposed 5,000 points cancellation penalty for an one-way MASA ex USA (LAX SYD)

Sorry yep my mistake - in excitment saw 'Any Seat Award' in the text and stupidly assumed the best (note to self - read emails properly).....

As they can now see it all in one swoop (well except for J) why not add ASA's too?.

Today during the humungous Q site stuff up during the site update they added classic alongside flight costs and an excellent idea it is, but not ASA's (what's new) apparently its all to hard for them, so still have to waste time and in many cases be put through the wringer.

Red Roo:
As many of us are interested in this, perhaps you could expand on your reply?

T&Cs vary across ASA bookings - depending on routes, booking classes and other variables. It is difficult to be certain what applies now, when booking by phone and not having access to the detail but instead having to rely on the interpretation of the telephone agent.

Nor are the T&Cs apparent in My Bookings for ASAs booked since the MASA arrangements were implemented, in contrast with the way they showed for pre-MASA bookings, with a specific column for relevant conditions.

Other posts over recent days provide more detail.

Would appreciate more clarification of what we can or should expect under the new process, please.

And, in any case, the fare conditions should be available through MMB as before. What would be the reason for hiding them?

The terms and conditions are as they were. Changes and cancellations will vary subject to the fare rules, therefore fees will differ accordingly.

I note your point regarding the terms and conditions being available in "Manage My Bookings" and have passed this one for internal review. Please private message me with a booking reference that I can use as an example and investigate this further.

It is not so much the T&C's - it is the Fare Rules which are not available with MMB.

See here from post #707 to #711

Can somebody help me because for the life of me, I don't understand how this works anymore.

The Qantas website (Frequent Flyer - Using Points - QF & JQ Any Seat Awards) says that you click the "Show As Points" to book an ASA online.

That works fine for me with the usual fairly abysmal points value. But there is not way to reduce the ASA back to its classic award level in the way you used to do it? Is this only available using the telephone way?

Obviously using the points + pay system gives some ridiculous results where the fare is more expensive than paying for the whole thing in the first place.
