Was hoping someone out there in FF land maybe able to help me. I have gone through most of the RTW and xONE threads and have the following questions.

Reference has been made to the problems associated with flying from YVR on a DONE4. however when I check the QF page they show codeshares out of YVR to SFO and LAX. Does that mean if I book it as a QF back to SYD will this allow DONE4 and receive QF FF points and Credits?

Also if flying out of LAX which of QF12, QF108, QF176 is the better flight in terms of configuration, seating plane etc.

Lastly for this set, if I want to fly from Den to YVR, I believe I have to go via DFW to stay with AA, from my understanding this counts as 2 segments, is this a correct understanding?

Reggie

You can only use code-share if the operating airline is an OW airline too. In this case, it needs to be AA. From LAX or SFO, I understand they are AS, so you won't be allowed to book them on a DONE4. You'll have to go through DFW or something (I went through DFW last year to get to YVR).

I seem to remember QF will start a new service from SYD to SFO which continue to YVR. Maybe worthwhile to check it out.

Welcome to AFF Reggie :)

DEN to YVR via DFW will be 2 segments unless you are lucky enough to find a single flight number connecting DEN and YVR (and dont take a stopover in DFW).

Thanks Leumas, it is as I thought.

Kiwi Flyer, thankyou for the advice and the welcome. I thought I may have heard from you on another thread after I refered to the 7th and 8th states across the Tasman.

How would I go getting to LAX(SFO) after flying to YVR via DWF without going back. Can I have an open jaw and pay for the flight from YVR to LAX(SFO), and then resume my DONE4?

Remember that QF will be commencing SFO-YVR-SFO a few times a week from June, so that will be another option for a xONEx fare. Otherwise it must be an AA operated flight for destinations/origins in the USA.

QF12 and QF108 are both 3-class non-stop services LAX-SYD. Chose the one with the best timing for you. These both depart from LAX Terminal 4, so if you qualify for lounge access (Qantas Club member, or OneWorld Sapphire or Emerald) you get to use the joint QF/AA lounge, which is far superior to the TBI lounges.

QF176 is a 2-class LAX-BNE-SYD service (only continues to SYD on some days). This flight departs from Tom Bradley International Terminal and lounges and terminal are not as good as those at Terminal 4.

Thanks NM I have had the unforgetable experience of using the lounge (morseso the ammenties) in TBI, and will deifinitely pick one of the T4 flights.

Unfortunately June is a bit too late I will be taking that flight around the 17th of May

You never know I may even get and upgrade to first and see how the other side of the curtain live

You can do xx_-DFW-YVR-DFW-SFO as part of your DONE without problems. You probably use more segments that you want to, but I don't think there are many choices...

This is the dilema

For DONE4
18 segments - Good, 7 seg in NA - Not good, YVR-LAX not good

For DGLOB (I think this is the code)
18 segments - Good, 5 stopovers in NA - Not good. could open jaw YVR-LAX

Have I got this right, any suggestions?

You can purchase addition segments in NA so long as you bstay under the total 20 segments.

Another option is transfer JFK-LGA and take LGA-CMB rather than via BOS.

NM,

Excellent idea. I didn't realise I could change aiports Does this only work on a transit, or can I do it when stopping in New York for the weekend?

I tell you NM, the membership fee for joining this discussion board is worth every cent. lol. I will definitely have to buy you a drink in the QP lol if we ever meet.

Stopping for the weekend is a perfect time to be changing airports and quite permissible

Whilst on the subjet of NY airports, If you guys have been there, do you know how far from Manhatten (please excuse bad spelling) are JFK and LGA

From Wall Street its about 10 miles to LGA and 15 miles to JFK

Thanks Dave any tips where to stay and where not to. Just doing the tourist thing, haven't been there before.

For Manhattan, I'd suggest you stay closer to Central Park (mid-town), rather than, for example, near Wall Street, which is downtown.

Reasons for that, mid-town has more tourist oriented attractions, e.g., Central Park, Radio City, Time Square, etc. Downtown is more commercial and therefore rather quiet afterhours and in weekends.

The subway is pretty good in NY, and runs 24x7, so everything is quite accessible really.

Accommodation is expensive in NY, and that's not counting the near 20% tax and room charge or whatever. Go to Priceline or Hotwire for cheaper rooms, but you'll have to forego any miles that you can earn under normal circumstances.

I think you mean CMH not Colombo!

They're both fairly close. JFK is slightly easier to get to using public transport. For info on public transport and terminals used by which airline, etc, see http://www.panynj.gov/ and click on the relevant airport.

Actually I think you have 8 segments (since there is no YVR-LAX). Are there any LCCs between New York and Columbus (or one of the nearby cities)? If so perhaps do that short leg on separate ticket which saves having to purchase extra NA segments? (You could also do separate ticket for other legs eg YVR-LAX but suspect that one wont be too cheap unless you're prepared to drive down to Seattle and fly SEA-LAX.)

Open jaws (called surface segments) are allowed on xONEx.

jfk-bos-cmh-stl-den-dfw-yvr-lax I can only see seven segments as lhr-jfk and lax-syd seem to be classed as intercontinental, can you advise.

Also with NM's suggestion jfk,lga-cmh-stl-den-dfw-yvr-lax is only six, but the yvr-lax is still the problem
