Hi

One of my colleagues is planning a RTW trip in July. She can't afford Business and hates flying Y (who can blame her). Is there a PE RTW fare ex SYD????

Thanks

There is this one advertised at Bestflights.com.au

You can also pay a surcharge on an Oneworld RTW ticket to get Premium Economy (World Traveller Plus) on certain flights.

Only BA in the Oneworld fold has PE and it's not on every flight.

I think there is PE with some of the other alliances. They should (maybe) have similar deals.

The standard *A RTW does not have a premium economy option, however you can purchase an economy RTW and pay a surcharge to upgrade to premium economy on Air NZ (on sectors that offer premium economy). Depending on when your trip is this could include Asia-AKL-SYD/BNE/MEL-AKL-LAX-LHR but would be stuck with regular economy for the other sectors.

There are NZ/VS/SQ RTW products, but I havent seen one specifically for premium economy. The business version is a little cheaper than the standard *A RTW, but of course more restrictive.

Another option, would be to buy an economy RTW and upgrade some sectors (presumably the longhaul ones) using miles. However this could cost a lot of miles, and at the moment only NZ points can be used. *A is rolling out *A-wide mileage upgrades but NZ is not yet participating and we dont have a date for when they will be. In any event, as few airlines have premium economy, it is likely only NZ points could be used to upgrade economy->premium economy (other points would be economy->business).

Thanks KiwiFlyer I might suggest to my colleague she purchases the BA/QF RTW with the World Traveller Plus component and endure QF in Y from LA - SYD.

How about you fly UA and get E+ because of your *G status.

Simple?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Didn't UA start charging a copayment fee for this? Recall hearing somewhere you paid a certain amount per year or per flight for this benefit...

Nope. Clifford is correct, if have *G (or even *S) status, subject to availability get a free upgrade into E+ seating. Only difference is an extra few inches of pitch (which is welcome of course), and first to get served meals, everything else is same as regular economy.

So premium economy on UA is not the same as premium economy on NZ (and others) where the food/drink is also better than regular economy.
