Anyone have a list of routes on which Qantas sells First as Business, Business as Premium (i.e. where you can select seats from the cabin class above)?

Does this only happen on routes where First is not sold, or does it happen on these routes as well?

You're never guaranteed a PE seat when flying in Y or an F seat when flying in J. IE SYD - DFW, you could always be moved to a seat in the class you're ticketed in.

QF7/8 is about the only guaranteed one at present, and that will change as the aircraft get the refurb!

One of the SYD-HKG was sold for a while as 3 class with no F but always serviced by an aircraft that had F seats...

Although I agree no seat is guaranteed.

Ok, alternatively, which (if any) routes are operating dedicated 3 class config 747 i.e. no first seats.

Looks like QF7/QF9 and also QF20/QF21 from what I'm reading elsewhere, are flying 4 class 747s with 3 class ticketing.

Not worried about guarantees, more just wondering if I flew in J would be nice to grab a spare F seat. However as I fly out of MEL on busy routes doesn't seem like this is going to happen.

Hi all - dragging this thread out of the darkness to pose a related question.

I have the option between January travel from Melbourne on Qantas QF21/22 (dep Syd) or Cathay Pacific (dep Mel via HKG) in business. Status/points are not important here, and price is the same.

Expertflyer is showing 3J and 3K available on the Qantas flights, so seated in first. CX, whilst a longer flight (+2hr outbound, +4hr inbound), has better overall timing for my arrival/departure - and even their old business product out of Melbourne is far superior to QF IMO. I've not been impressed with QF international in the past.

Is the first seating with QF a risk? I know the general rule is expect the class you pay for...

What would you do?

There is no '3J' seat in any Qantas First cabin on the 747...have a look at the seat maps... even if it is a First cabin sold as J/C the seats stay the same 3A, 3E, 3F, 3K (4 abreast) so the flight you are looking at is a 747 configured with only J/C in the nose... they are the only ones that have both J and K seats....there are lots of those aircraft at Qantas.

Wow, you don't miss a thing. However I'm confused, the seat map says rows 3 and 4 are 6 abreast, see this image. I can't find a seat map on Qantas that matches?

Ok thanks. So I spose this would be a newly refitted 747 on that route?
Relatively new - refitted late last year through early this year - one of the old J/Y classes reconfigured to J/W/Y - or heaven forbid, OJD (which is still 2 class)!

the 'new' refitted 747N doesnt have a row 4... by mid feb2012 there will be 3 refitted a/c in service.. all mainly being utilized on routes qf15/16.. qf7/8..but could pop up anywhere!!!

Hi guys quick question. I have a flight booked on January 7th 2012 syd-eze on Premium Economy, but have pre-selected seat 30J, which I believe is a business class seat. My question is if anyone knows when that particular route will have it's interior upgraded?

Also on a side note, I have read threads where people say you must be a qff gold/platinum to be able to choose particular seats. But I was able to choose a J seat for Y+ ticket and an F seat for J ticket on my inbound flight (I have now changed this flight to LAN scl-syd). This was an award booking and I am only a Bronze member. I thought that was quite interesting.

Cheers,
Theeban

Welcome to AFF. :D

It could be that since LA codeshare in this flight and have 'their own' specific seats, the normal seat restrictions are not applied.

This is a 747 - 400 series with Business Class configured at the front and also an upper deck Business Class configuration.
This particular configuration is limited mostly to flying to Tokyo.

I have just made a JASA on QF22 NRT-SYD and have 3AB, for Feb 2013. Seat Map shows 4 rows in cabin.
Assuming that zone A may be refitted with Mk11 seats by then, is row 3 still a better choice than the UD.
