Roomba, Dysons, Thermomix and other household appliances

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Frankly when it comes to vacuums, unless it is a Dyson I wouldn't even consider it.
My impression on AFF is people buy generally buy top of the line appliances for home?

I bought a $70 vacuum cleaner from Big W (think that was the cheapest I could buy) and it appears to work quite well.

Why would I need a Dyson? Does a better job? Lasts longer? Or conversation piece?

As is my understanding or from influence of stereotypes, depending on the model you get, Dysons are meant to last longer (price per year should either break even or be better), have a more powerful vacuum, and (most) are bagless. The last two are meant to be better in general for cleaning, as it means you don't keep rolling over the same bit of floor twice to pick up little bits that simply get pushed away by the vacuum head. It's also supposed to mean that it is easier to try and suck up things from tight spaces without having to get extremely close.

Anyway, that is my understanding.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Dysons are amazballz! Yes, better at picking stuff up. have power heads, bagless saves money in the long run. Easy to use. And generally last longer. Brother in law has a side line in recycling stuff. Dysons are one item that he always grabs from the side of the road because they are always worth $$$ after a bit of care.

Tested a Dyson versus Miele for pet hair and the Miele coughped all over the Dyson. They're a lot of hype...

I want a robot vacuum to keep on top of the hair etc so I dont have to vacuum myself so often. Dyson wont help me with that.

The dyson picks up our cat hair ok.

Given the small size of a robot vacuum, meaning limited size of motors, brushes and nozzles, I would think it will be disappointing if a full size vacuum is no good.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Our robot cleaner has stopped so we went Japanese....she is a person and very good.

I want a robot vacc in addition to my Miele. I dont like pulling out the full vacuum every day to deal with balls of dog hair and stray cat litter. The idea is the robot keeps on top of things so that when I do use the full vacuum, the effort is less (and I dont constantly end up with cat litter tracked down the hallway). I love my Miele and will be keeping it. We did a side by side with Dyson at the time of purchase and the Dyson did bugger all to remove the hair (jack russell hair is stubborn); the Miele Pet Vac gets it all.

We have two labradors so the tumbleweeds accumulate quickly! We got a robot vac to manage the day to day. As you noted, you still need to do an occasional vacuum but keeps the floor fairly dog hair free. We have floor boards btw.

I use my Dyson hand held every day on the ground floor floorboards. In fact it's so good I rarely get out the full size cleaner. Takes two minutes and all traces of the Lab are gone (except for him following me around everywhere as he hates to be alone)

I'd actually love a stick vacc too, but I like the laziness of the Roomba...

The totally off-topic thread

Until I bought a Dyson I just didn't get it. I thought my vacuum was good. Wasn't until I saw the dyson canister full of dust that I knew it wasn't.

Then I lashed out on the stick dyson. Best.thing.ever. I do have a rhoomba - they are ok but nothing like the dyson.

The stick - very lightweight and easy to grab so you tend to vacuum quickly and more often.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

I bought a Dyson stick vacuum and is my only vacuum cleaner. The 35 yo Hoover has gone to a better place.

Problem is, that still requires me to vacuum....Roomba does its own thing.

The dyson picks up this fella's hair quickly and easily. He sheds - a lot!

I am a very lazy vacuumer due to a disc rupture a few years ago. Normal vacuuming kills my back. Not the stick dyson though.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

I have had Dysons and prefer our Miele

Have a Miele also and works very well. Not sure the 'bag' costs are something to worry about, I pay £2.50 for a new bag (bought in a pack of 4 for a tenner) so not really a huge outlay.

Totally agree with all of the above !!

Me too Pushka - I fractured T12 and the Dyson doesn't cause me back pain either.
