Rockfords discussion

Congrats to all the new(-ish) Stonewallers. When I was at a lunch there last week, some-one from the table asked how many there were and how quick you could become one. Answer from Todd - a) don't know and b) about 5-7 years, with contact and 'engagement' not amount of $$ spent, being important. He also said that there were more SWers than usual being created recently, as some of the 'originals' had slowed down their ordering#. Fixed amount of wine, with less ordered by SWers in total = more room for new SWers!

# I confess I fall into that category :( (I'm not an 'original original', but I think I was on pretty early.)

I notice from the latest Rag that winemaker Ben Radford is moving on, after 14 years, 'sooner than expected'. Lachlan Duncan moving into that role.

Has Ben Radford left Rockford? (This question was just asked on The Wine Front)

If he has it will be interesting to see (taste) the difference it will make to their wines.

Indeed - Looks like we have a confirmed answer @Steady

It's also a palate thing.

Not everyone, but a lot of people as they get older tend to enjoy lighter varieties and styles (e.g. Pinot Noir, softer Southern European varietals).

This is my wives favourite winery -whats the best way to get onto the mailing list (and then become a Stonewaller after 5-7 years)?

Is it a matter of calling up and ordering the less popular wines every couple of months, or visiting a few times is really required?

To get on the mailing list, just call up, or go to their web site: Home Page

Then engage. Visit; order, go to lunch there if you can. There are no 'less popular wines' - try to enjoy them all.

Phone them up and buy some once or twice a year, initially you cannot get the basket press or black Shiraz, but after a couple of years you should be able to get 3 of each.

I like virtually all of their range, im happy to buy the other wines - in my limited experience the Rifle Range is on par with the basket press

Apparently my delivery was due today but I’m yet to see it. Next week I guess.

@ricee007 I'm planning to do an AFF tour to Rockford in April. You should try and come along, most things should be available for purchase.
Keep an eye on the social forum early next year.
Hi buzzard. A few friends (8 of us) are organising a trip to the Barossa next May. Obviously with rockford high on the list. Are there any tour providers that you would recommend. It sounds like we will miss the April tour.

If you want to set your own itinerary and hire a van + driver for 8 hours I can PM you a contact that will probably only charge about $500.
Not bad when divided by 8 pax.
