Merriam Webster says:

So, I'd say it means go get QF/VA/JQ.

They are clearly targeting VA2 and were hoping to run them out of business, to then sweep in as the new 'number 2'..... (pulling a DJ move when they were gifted #2 scale for free and overnight when AN was bankrupted by NZ)
 
So, here's a random thought, if per chance Rex can actually sustain a presence in the jet market, do we think there is any chance of them trying to partner with United, once international travel recommences, and become codeshare, interline and Mileage Plus partner?

That would actually suit me quite well as I have United Gold status, but I doubt it very much.
 
Interesting to see what happens with SQ (if Rex wants partners), given Rex's connections to Singapore, and if VA-Bain will be able to restore a relationship with SQ, or if ZL may muscle in?
 
If we go by the historic AFF article on costs to fly aircraft, it put it at about $10,000 to fly a 737 MEL-SYD, requiring an average of $60 per seat. Plus additional revenue from freight.

Let’s say an 80% capacity and fares of around $79, we must be getting close to a break even?
REX wouldn't have any freight services AFAIK.
 
Maybe Rex could join Star Alliance then ;)
Doubtful, without even having their own frequent flyer program as yet.

But thinking laterally, maybe they could negotiate a deal with SQ to pay ZL for using Kris Flyer as their FF program, and not even have to invent their own to go up against the local behemoths! :oops: (Similar to how Air Vanuatu doesn't have its own program and just uses Qantas FF as its program.)

Seems like we are back to the VA1 type style advertising - really pathetic IMO.
Except the VA1 advertising was at least reflective of the brand they were building

Have no idea what Rex want to be and I don't think they do either

Perhaps Temasek might want to buy PAG's stake in REX, much like their simultaneous interest in VS/VA during both their administration processes. ;)

Seriously though the Singaporean company has little to no links with Temasek's subsidiary SQ/SIA. They're separate companies.
 
IMHO, Rex is going for the anti-brand look, deliberate or not? Australian aviation has had more than it's fair share of "slick" branding, I mean the last thing we need is another QF wannabe, like VA tried to be after transforming from DJ.

This won't appeal to many on here, but probably will to a chunk of the public.

One of our aviators suggests that 'the public' (by which he means those who aren't savvy like you, dajop) care (by and large) only about price.

This may be a slight exaggeration - timetables are important, and never discount the lure of FF points even if the reality doesn't match the hype - but has the ring of truth. Short distance air travel is commoditised.
