Those offers from USDM were coming thick and fast and I had some US credit cards that needed enough movement to score bonuses so I just bought every 100% bonus for the two of them. They scored upgrades in the Americas too which was surprising.
It was like a Ben and Jerry's double dip thingy.
i feel certain my sons will miss me when I am gone if I miss showing them some AFF pearlers.

The only sting in all of this right now is the falling AUD versus the USD. Otherwise, aside from the fact it is still good value anyway, it'd be all apples, as the saying goes.

Interesting. I haven't bought any US DM miles yet for this latest promo (up to 2 Jan). Now when I check the portal, not only do I have the current promotion (up to 45k bonus miles), but a 10% discount as well. Apparently this kicked in from 15 December.

So my quoted price for 125,000 miles (80k + 45k bonus) is $2,318.30, including taxes and fees. That's 1.855 US cents per mile.

Anyone see the same thing?

Looks like a new offer, so should be possible to buy again even for those who bought before December 15 (as I did). The full 45,000 bonus shows on the next screen when I proceed to payment, generally it doesn't when ineligible.

I've been burning a lot of my US points on Qantas J domestic lately.

30,000 points + $31.45 (taxes) + $62.70 (booking fee) for return business class fares Perth - Sydney/Melbourne is excellent value.
Using this promo, all up $800 AU return or $400 one way. A real bargain price for Qantas business.

After US becomes AA points, it will cost an extra 5000 points, but you don't need to pay the $62.70 booking fee as you can book QF awards online.

I don't plan on buying any more, and only have 30K miles left now and plan on getting something J close by. Do we have a better idea yet on when they will be swallowed up by AA?

New USDM offer just arrived buy 70K miles get 35K for free here.

Mirrors the AA offer, except that the AA offer allows purchase of up to 100k + 35k, which also caps out the annual points purchase allowed on AA. (Note US has no such annual restrictions).

70k + 35k = 105k for USD 2,249.88, inclusive of taxes and transaction fee. 2.14 US cents per mile purchased. Damn the exchange rate for making it a steep investment. (Still cheaper than full cash straight up, but you get the idea).

Never knew no cap on USDM miles buy.

Yeah current USD/AUD exchange rate not doing us any favours, but still cheap to travel up pointy end :)

there is no annual cap on USDM miles buy - but you are normally limited to a certain amount in each promotion period in order to get a bonus.

Miles purchased outside the bonus are at full price.

The $5k miles are about an extra ~$125AUD so it'll be an extra $60-$65AUD for the return business trip. Still excellent value

I make about 4-6 every year - so it is perfect for me. Hoping some of my later year flights get subbed for the new config. And the perth business lounge gets built quickly.
