Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Indeed, but once you start combining awards the cost can rise significantly.

Currently business class return Australia->USA is just 110K

under AA (via HKG) that jumps to 180K.

combined J/F jumps from 140K to 205K.

Using QF points (120K to HKG) and AA onwards brings the cost to 230K. For that price I'd be securing QF seats non-stop.

Under current AA rules getting to Europe from Australia may also be significantly more difficult unless you can commit at the 335 day mark (and if there are any QF seats left at that stage)

After the programs combine, I would anticipate being able to also make it to the US on Fiji Airways (AAdvantage partner). I would think that flying via Fiji would be something worthwile considering (their new J product on A330 is nice if not fully flat) if there are no seats on QF direct flights. This way is bypassing the rule of no flight number change in the 3d zone

Agreed, but with FJ you're almost getting in to the category of just being able to buy a revenue ticket. And score the benefits of complete flexibility, no award space restrictions, and get SCs and points.

I agree, one quite often can get it around $3.5k mark

Yes your routing is much better than mine via NAN to LAX.

Mine I do like to use AS miles, no Lax also CX have so many direct destinations out of HKG.

and we have all been trying to grab QF J seats to USA from the small pool available.

and now again.

Now through January 2, 2015, you'll earn up to 45,000 bonus Dividend Miles[SUP]®[/SUP] when you buy miles for yourself, or add up to 45,000 bonus miles to your purchase when you gift miles to a friend or loved one. That's a total of up to 125,000 Dividend Miles – our best offer ever. Buy or gift miles today.

Is it "again" or just an extension?

If it is the former, that would signal a new promotion period, which means anyone who bought points in the "last" promo can do so "again" and get another bonus.

Of course, I'm not sure about others, but my credit card would be absolutely heaving at another quickfire $3000 dropped onto it (especially if you've also bought up on other points promos)!

Bit of a strange one says "now to Jan. 2, 2015". "Now" could mean new offer.

It as sent to me. and I like most here had the fill up.

Hi there, does anybody know if the current buy/gift miles promo is considered a "new" promo compared to the previous one? I bought miles mid November and would like to buy again if I'll be entitled to the bonus.

You could always do a dummy, you'll know before you are asked to pay up!

When I tried (after buying 80,000+45,000 first time around) it wouldn't give me more than 5,000 bonus points however many I bought, which would have taken my total bonus points to 50,000 , the maximum stated in the terms & conditions.

Thanks both for your replies.

Burmans - when I go to do a dummy booking, on the screen where you enter in the CC details it says "The cost to buy 80,000 + 45,000 Bonus miles is $2,572.00 (including taxes/fees)*.

Is this the screen you are referring to or is there a later screen? (Can't remember what happened last time I bought miles!)

ketsuzei - did you get this screen as well? Or did it appear as if you would get the 80k + 45k all through the process and only 5K bonus miles appeared in your account?

It sounds like you're getting something different to what I got, in a good way. I think my bonus went down to 5,000 on the credit card screen.

When did you buy the 80k+45k miles? After the latest extension to the current offer or back in late Oct/early Nov when this offer first appeared?

Cheers

As per ketsuzei's post if you can't get the bonus it usually won't show in the screen you have tried. That has always been my experience but maybe others differ.

Getting a business class return from Perth to Melbourne or Sydney and back now costs 30,000 US Air Miles plus about $24 USD so it ends up now costing about $700 plus AUD. The saving is still about $3,000 off retail for a Qantas run.

Don't forget the USD50 assisted booking fee ...

compared to the actual economy fare - which is creeping up, and at peak times can be quite expensive... $700 (even with tax and booking fee) can be just a hundred or so dollars more than economy.

Friends who travel to perth regularly were looking at something like $680 to get to Perth over Christmas, but award seats were there in business. Bargain!

Gold members don't pay the $50 fee Serfty and we Skyped that priority number. I used my US Citi MasterCard to pay the $24 USD fee. 10 minutes and all ok for my eldest son.....he was booking a sport laden long weekend in Melbourne.
Both my sons now know how to redeem US Air miles so I am making progress.
Because the stash of US Air miles were acquired pre-devaluation and with 100% bonuses this has been a great journey for him as he learns.

How does one become a gold Dividend Miles member without the 60,000 PQM or 60 credited eligible segments?
