Hi All

Hubby and I are off to the USA March (Mel-LAX) QF93 on the A380 and return March 24th QF94. I have enough points for an upgrade for both of us but unfortunately we bought the cheapest fares and therefore no upgrade allowed. Not so concerned about having lounge access at Melbourne but would have liked to have that facility at LAX. The only other option seems to be the RELAX Lounge for a payment of $35.00 each - has anyone used this facility and is it worth the cost. I expect will will check in about 8.30pm ish so will be sitting around for 3 hours or so. I did look at Priority Pass but probably only fly international once or twice a year..any advice would be appreciated.
thanks

I don’t know which terminal QF fly from in LAX, but recall you can buy a day pass for the Alaska Airlines lounge, the Boardroom. Not sure if that’s domestic or international though, hmm.

Edit: From the looks of things, wrong terminal, sorry.

Yep QF=TBIT

I wonder what side of security the reLAX lounge is on... I know that after security at TBIT there is next to nothing...

Enough points for 2* fare upgrade almost == enough for QP membership.. or join up as a gold here and get the discount cash rate...

QP membership is so valuable to me traveling internationally... and although I complain incessantly about the LAX TBIT OW J lounge having access to a shower and feed in the desolation that is TBIT is nice.

IIRC, the ReLAX lounge is before security - upstairs at the back of the food court.

That would explain why you can go to the lounge with your bags before check-in opens, check-in and come back to the lounge.

Considering that, could they be used as an arrivals lounge?

Thanks all for your responses but won't bother with the lounge if before Security. I will have a look at the cost of joing the Qantas Club through Gold Membership here but for maybe two international flights a year it probably isn't worth it. Hopefully will be using my points for an award booking in J next time round anyway.

Keep in mind, that in TBIT, once through security there is *nothing*. Last October there were two Sees Candy stores, and that was it. Not even a vending machine to be found.

Unless planning on staying in the lounge, there is a lot more to do pre-security at TBIT (ok, there are things to do, and that's more than saying about post-security).

Forgive the thread necrophilia here, but I figured I can add a bit about the lounge for others' reference in future:

Spent a couple of in the reLAX Lounge (landside in TBIT) last week - long story short I had missed a connection on United meaning I had 24hrs to kill in LAX before the 2230 flight (hotel checkout was at 2pm and not much to do).
Rather than heading straight through to the abysmal Red Carpet Club in Terminal 7 I ducked in to the reLAX lounge with complimentary entry thanks to my corporate Diners Club Card.

Entry is straightforward - swipe of DC card through EFTPOS terminal ($0 charge) and signature to ensure card validity. 15 second spiel of features of the lounge. Drinks, nibblies, comfortable chairs. Toilets outside lounge, and no showers.

Lounge was almost deserted when I arrived, but steadily filled up over the couple of hours I was there.

Impressive (to me) customer service - I went outside to use the Gents after about 90 minutes, and upon return I was immediately greeted/welcomed back inside by name.

Selection of softdrinks, nibblies, pastries for self service. Some magazines. Alcoholic drinks for purchase over the bar.

Selection of chairs, tables, benches with plenty of powerpoints around, and a view of the massive construction works around TBIT.
Free secured WIFI - WPA2 password appeared to be changed daily, and was displayed on each table/bench. High speed and quite reliable (much more so than the ****e connectivity in RCC).

Not sure I can add much more. Well worth the complimentary entry with DC, and the (not so) short walk to T7 was manageable afterwards. I may even have stumped up the $15 for an hour or $30 for three ($50 all day inc a free drink).
