Hi All,

I am a bit confused.

I booked a return flight for a family member, the outward leg cost $250 and the return leg was a frequent flyer booking that cost 8,000 points and about $54 - all done at the same time as one booking.

I also booked myself on the same return flight as well, for 8,000 points and about $54

I had to cancel these tickets.

My ticket was refunded 8,000 points, and had a 6,000 point cancellation fee. Also got the $54 back, which is as I expected.

My family member's tickets got refunded about $296 and 8,000 points with no 6,000 point cancellation fee.

Based on my, admittedly infrequent, experiences of booking and cancelling with Qantas, I was expecting her FF leg to be treated the same as mine, and the cash leg to be converted to a Qantas credit.

I am in no way complaining, I am very happy in fact, I was just wondering if that was what was supposed to happen or a glitch in the Qantas system?

Thanks in advance - I tried to find the answer myself, by googling mixed type refunds, but just got stuff on mixed Y/J/F refunds, sorry if this is a silly question.

Below are the two lines from the family member's online profile

I've had the cancellation points take anywhere up to a month to be deducted.

If it never comes out, well... :)

Thanks - it looks like the Classic FF leg converted the cash leg to an all-cash Any Seat Award to make it a total FF booking.

I am guessing that the $7 or 8 missing from the cash refund is the credit card fee and the 6,000 point cancellation fee will be applied to the account at some time in the future.

This is great to know, as I hate having sometimes several credit vouchers scattered across several family members, so annoying when Ch1 has a credit voucher but Ch2 is flying.

So now, as long as one of the legs is a classic redemption, I should get everything, almost all cash and points, back, less a 6,000 point fee - great news for me if it is so! :-)
