I made an award booking online which cost 50,000 miles. I then changed the flights online to a completely different itinerary costing only 27,500 miles. I paid the $75 change fee and additional taxes. The booking reference number stayed the same.

I expected to get a refund of the difference of 22,500 miles in my account however its been 3 weeks and still nothing. All receipts and records of the new itinerary still show it costing the original 50,000 points.

Would anyone familiar with this program recommend I wait a bit longer or would I need to follow it up? I don't suppose they'll make me pay another $150 for a redeposit of miles?

This may be late, but UA J class is relatively easy to get upgraded into. The main problem is that they prioritise upgrades based on class of Economy ticket &/or status. I think you would want to be sure of an upgrade, UA transpacific economy equates to a short term prison cell. It's possibly the worst way to travel 12-13 hours economy in the world, unless anyone else can come up with a more horrendous leg.

I've had it take anywhere from 3 days to 3 months for mileage to be redeposited. Don't have to pay any redeposit fees though.
