Sony cameras like this use the PlayMemories app for iPhone/iPad (and Android AFAIK) and computer. PlayMemories Mobile Support | Sony

This is excellent. I use it with my RX100 while in the bar/lounge at night to quickly transfer the day's photos to my iPad via WiFi. Then I can select, edit and upload to Flickr (using Flickr Stackr) and then select and edit a sub set to upload to AFF. Very good solution.

BTW: These are a good comparison articles

Can you also post straight to AFF without flicker using the app?

I have been using PlayMemories (Sony A5100) on my last trip and it worked brilliant on transferring photos to IPhone then straight to AFF.

Brilliant. Trying to avoid use of internet as next trip won't have that much access. Also back to Dubai :p

Last year, I decided that I needed my own travel camera, so I bought a lovely four thirds sensor Olympus EM-10. I am very happy with it except, even though it is the smallest of its type, it is too big to fit into my handbag with all the lenses.

I decided to buy a smaller camera with a built-in zoom which would fit into my fairly small Hedgren Metro Expandable Shoulder bag. I researched extensively and narrowed the choice down to the
· Panasonic LX 100
· Panasonic LX 10
· Panasonic TZ 100
· Sony RX100
· Canon Powershot G5X

The following were my must haves
· Smaller and lighter than my Olympus
· At least a 1” sensor
· Tiltable screen
· Touch screen
· Electronic Viewfinder
· 5-axis stabilisation
· Hotshoe
· Built-in flash
· Tilt correction
· Jpeg/RAW
· Optical Zoom
· Regular features in all camera options
· Articulating screen (desirable)

The clear winner was the Canon Powershot G5X.

It is always with me and I have been able to take some great shots of the grandchildren and of random interesting things when out and about.

I am so happy with the Canon that I slightly regret buying the Olympus first, although it takes great shots. The Olympus is particularly good when at home, on the balcony of a cruise ship or on a photography trip. One compensation is that my +1 has a Panasonic 4/3“ sensor and my 3 Olympus lenses are compatible with his camera.

Oh yes, of course. Maybe I wasn't clear. They are two different activities. I use Flickr for all my travel photos, many hundreds per trip, so I do that first. But then I chose a sub-set set of images (on my iPad) and then upload them to AFF using the AFF Web interface on the iPad. (Don't like the AFF app. -:) ) Conversion, editing of size, rotation and colour etc is needed from the default images transferred from the Sony camera.

Note that with PlayMemories, one can set the transfer size from camera to iPad. For AFF , you need to set the transfer size to not original size but use the 2M setting, then you may also need to resize a little via iPad edit photos before upload to AFF.

I got the HX90V from good guys for $423 plus $50 sony gift card and got my tax back and very happy.

I use the Play Memories onto iphone and ipad and works extremely well - very happy with the camera - trip report of UK and Italy coming soon

What do you use to resize photos on your ipad?

I wanted to go with the Panasonic TZ100 but couldn't justify the extra $400

What do you use to resize photos on your ipad?

I don't usually actually resize but crop the image from the original to about 7/8ths of original 2M size.

But there are several apps on the iStore that allow editing and resizing of images. I've used this one https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/image-size/id670766542?mt=8 in the past.

The other option of course is to email the images to yourself and select smaller sizes.

Thanks - I'll give that one a go - I find emailing a bit of a pain but if on my laptop Picasa is good to reduce a folder of images.

On a Windows machine we use Directory Opus for file management and that has nice image management functions for resizing and type conversion (JPG-PNG etc). Alternatively PaintShopPro we use for more extensive editing,

On the topic of flip phones and the Nokia 5110, I found my collection while doing some packing.

+1.

DOpus is really a "Swiss Army Knife" for Windows users - absolutely brilliant piece of software and Australian-made and published.

I love my Sony RX-100 IV - it takes embarrassingly good photos in all lighting conditions, producing "master shots" on iAuto that I can only match on my Nikon D7200 by manipulating the various controls. Its JPG output is almost as good as its RAW. It fits into a pocket easily. (It doesn't have a touch screen which is great -I had a Panasonic compact: if I was handling it between intended shots I seemed able to take close-up photos of my nose hairs or shoelaces or both.) The little Sony is also great for video with its optical image stabilisation - my Panasonic HD videocamera languishes unused for last few years in a drawer at home somewhere.

The only thing I added to the Sony was a Richard Franiec hand grip (a must-have accessory IMHO - makes the camera beautifully balanced and holdable). Oh and the Sony fast charger for which I used the $25 voucher that comes with the camera

Slightly off off topic but I have hundreds ( OK thousands) of photos from gadgets (iPhone etc) that I need to clean out and I'm looking for a good program on a PC that will find all the duplicates based on size and date taken so I can delete them - any suggestions welcome

Directory Opus can do that for you. There's a free evaluation trial I believe so maybe try it and see. They do have very responsive tech support as well.
