Likely too much capacity as Jetstar previously have come and gone on the route, they have just put a A321N on the route which increased seat count very recently.

Please be informed that AirAsia Indonesia (flight code QZ) will be suspending services from Denpasar (DPS) to Cairns (CNS) and from Cairns (CNS) to Denpasar (DPS) starting 19 September 2025 as part of a network optimisation initiative.

Very odd route for QZ to enter. Id say without the AAIF cash they would've not bothered to begin with.

One route that should've not been subsidised, considering the low inbound traffic.

I believe when they kicked off Jetstar was only 3 per week and A320. They have now moved to 4 weekly and 321N, essentially doubling seat count, plus they introduced the connections CNS-DPS via Melbourne which is daily.

Way too much capacity if you ask me.

I think AirAsia would do ok with the Neo on say KUL-CNS. Stronger hub network on the other end.
