Hi all, I have a situation where I have 3 reward J tix to CDG. I found myself short on points for another trip I need to book. So, I either need to change the existing booking to Y or Cancel the J tickets and rebook Y. There is availability in Y. What would be the easiest way to achieve this?. Also how long would it take for points return if I cancelled and re booked and what are the penalties. Cheers and thanks for any assistance . M

Can you purchase the points you are short on? Hate to see anyone give up J reward for Y.

Points return can be a bit sketchy. I have had them returned within a few days and another taking weeks and follow up. You would need to confirm that you actually got your points back if you changed the booking. I would cancel and rebook rather than change. There used to be a $15 USD fee per ticket for cancellation but I cannot remember if this went up when the program was enhanced last year.

The fees did indeed go up, but you're grandfathered in for the old fees (for the first change) if your ticket was issued before 01 May 2018. From experience, you need to remind them of this when you call!

Details here: Service Fees

As for how long, I'll let you know once I get my points back from a booking I had to cancel… still awaiting after a month!

Hi Denali, well thruth be it, this is a boys WW2 trip to Normandy, UBoat home and various museums etc, so I’m thinking the wife won’t accept Y on the following trip so I thought I would change tix and rough it with the boys and get browny points to the following Europe trip.

Thanks for the reply all . The charges are now 2500 points or US $25.00 per ticket. Q, can you do this on line or need to call the call Centre ?. Cheers

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I will be up to three months as of tomorrow! No idea why it takes so long for refund. I'm not in any urgent need for points so I haven't chased them yet but will make a call next week. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

What does this do for the ‘life’ of the miles. Maybe they should add that amount of time to the life of the miles, even if 3 years is not a problem.

you can do it online under manage bookings, it will calculate the fees automatically.

Coming up to 2 months over here and still nothing either... no refund for taxes or points, although they charged me the cancellation fee of course!

Called SQ again and they were apologetic and offered to "escalate" it once again. How hard can it be?

There is another thread where I discussed this, i waited for about a month. They paid the points refund within 24 hours of me sending a 2nd email request and implying they need to refund my cancellation fee. (they havent replied to that yet)
