Wow. Just read the last month’s posts, about 2/3 coming in the last week...

Nailed down dates for planned visit to NSW, and no surprise at the border restrictions being lifted. The enhanced ban in travellers from anyone in Vic looks like pure politics, rather than health based. If implemented under the existing framework, they would declare the whole of Victoria a hotspot. Looking at the cases in provincial Victoria I can’t see any more basis to exclude travellers from Mildura or Wodonga than Renmark or Albury.

No new Qld directions out yet following yesterday’s announcement, but some eyebrow raising official advice. Did a doubletake when I saw this one.

So just how would they prevent me, and what’s the sanction? Not surprised the actual directions aren’t out yet.

cheers skip

Qld has a knife edge election coming up soon its very important to look good, details don't matter.

It’s not a knife edge election, that’s Murdoch press fantasy. LNP is completely useless and disorganised with no talent (not that the ALP is much better) and after AP’s handling of the CV issue it will mean no change.

Polls say border closures are supported by 80% of population.

Funny even Faux Facts seems to think AP in trouble.

The Dennis Atkins article is interesting on the Qld election :

With Trad out of the way, the choice facing Queenslanders becomes more clear

Murdock press

Would be great to see another ALP stooge turfed out but not sure it will happen because the opposition are a bit of a rabble unfortunately

The Brisbane Times is Fairfax now Nine Newspapers. The Courier Mail is Murdoch.
There was also another poll that said Queenslanders want the border opened but it was in the Mercury and as RooFlyer knows for some silly reason that is always paywalled. But then again that is Murdoch press.

Agreed.. but the majority who bet on elections are what I would generally call well informed.

Yes they did very well on the last Federal election. Especially when the bookies paid out too early.

A fellow AFF member, for a laugh, put $20 on Trump to win at 20:1 about 18 months before the election. We had a very nice lunch at Montrachet with bottles of Burgundy!

My theory is that the Qld border will be closed until close to the election and maybe let a few more exemptions go through, you don't want one person who can generate a big media following and screw your election plans a week before an election.

WA is being completely unreasonable about giving passes to return to WA.

Scott Morrison should have held back the jobkeeper/jobseeker until after the states had a agreed on some border agreements.

I guess he also wants to get re-elected!
Jobkeeper and the Jobseeker Supplement will drop out anyway - the government doesn’t have to do anything for that to happen automatically. The LNP backbenchers federally are very aware they have been mugged by the Premiers in the design of Jobkeeper and won’t make the same mistake twice.

Future funding may well be targeted in a different way where WA just happens to miss out based on the hotspot rules.

What will happen with WA is that they will be isolated within Australia and their own citizens will get sick of it once the east coast opens up. Even more so if the borders are opened for NZ for states that follow the definition of a hotspot. And McGowan lost his leverage as the Cabinet now can move forward without him blocking it.
