QP members diverted from LAX TBIT Lounge until upgrade Complete - "Next Year"

Re: QP Members Barred from LAX TBIT Lounge until upgrade Completed - Sometime "Next Y

Maybe people are using the lounge now?

I know I rarely bothered with the old horrible OW lounges.

Could be, especially with all of the promotion.

AFAIK QF16 was moved to TBIT some time ago...

Only the end of April this year; so 2.5 mths, and this is the first Aus school holiday season with QF16 departing from TBIT.

And maybe I'm searching for a straw and there isn't really just one straw that broke the camel's back??

QFF/QC appear to be bursting at the seam. Every QF lounge I enter is pretty much full, no seats, depleted buffet, queue for drinks.......

Recent changes appear to be centred on changing the demographics.

Re: Qantas removes Lounge Access for QP members on EK flights from Oct 1

Quite right - I have a client who just purchased QP membership for his big USA trip this year , that's the main reason he wants it. IF he was to be refused it would be absolutely terrible

The only lounge he may miss out on is the TBIT LAX lounge, from other posts he probably has access to the T4 Admirals Club. If he is travelling around the US, then he can likely use any OW lounge he likes, and would have more privileges than the AA member who hasn't purchased the AC membership. Probably will not be the big loss he thinks it will be.

Agree with comments here... denying Qantas Club members seems like a bad idea.
Employees at Qantas seem to have a knack for poor decisions of late.

Really strange decisions from Qantas recently.

Sabotage?

Don't attribute to malice what can be equally explained away as incompetence.

Can they be that incompetent and continue to get away with poor decisions?

They hope so.
Sadly I think that the board thinks they are brilliant.

So you have 500 people wanting access to a lounge with capacity for 400. The SkyTeam lounge won't provide access, Emirates is yet to open. What do you do?

As an Emerald I got in a couple of weeks ago. It was hard to find a seat.

Great question...my answer, paid QP members, all the other options would prohibit OW members from a OW lounge, now that wouldn't make sense, as its a OW lounge with QF branding. Its only a short term issue until the other lounge opens...probably.

Any decision made to exclude anyone is bound to cause issues, but they have to control overcrowding or they will lose their right to operate. One decision could have been to let the lounge sit idle until the first lounge comes online...again, that is a commercially non viable situation.

Tough call in the end.

That'd have resulted in no lounge at all...?

The only fair option is "first come, first served". If you arrive after capacity has been reached, you don't get in.

Indeed - based on status.

Being a OW lounge...status counts across the board!

F and J should have allocated space. For economy pax regardless of whether status or paid QC, first in best dressed

Status overrules paid fares every time - CL and other OW equivalents snooker everything else.....it all flows downhill from there.

Its a oneworld lounge, you cannot exclude someone with OW status over someone with QP.

Re: QP Members Barred from LAX TBIT Lounge until upgrade Completed - Sometime "Next Y

Nice to see that QF has finally realised that they can't just keep giving more and more people lounge access. Imagine if they gave out business class upgrades to all the people they give access to the business lounge... The aeroplane would be so nose-heavy that it it would never take off!

Re: QP Members Barred from LAX TBIT Lounge until upgrade Completed - Sometime "Next Y

But guests can be limited precisely in line with the terms and conditions that guests my be limited due to capacity. That is certainly much more tenable that excluding all Qantas club members, presumably because of the "quite enjoyment of the lounge" condition, regardless of whether the lounge is at capacity or not. If I turned up to a 400 seat lounge with 100 people in it and was excluded because of the "atmosphere" of the lounge, I would be fully entitled to say that reason was a load of stinking cough. The lounge is not crowded, the atmosphere is perfectly fine. It is utter incompetence to pretty there is any validity to excluding people in the situation described. They have terms and conditions how about actually picking option A, no guests.
