Does anyone know what renovations are taking place to the QP entrance in T3 at Sydney ?

I noticed the East entrance closed and the glass covered in black plastic sheets last week, and indeed, they are the same today.

I would conject the entrance takes up more room than necessary, making terminal space utilisation less efficient. Therefore SACL are changing things to scavenge some valuable retail space.

Well because of the construction I finally noticed that new techno store that resides between both entrances. I would regard any shop between the two entrances a REALLY BAD place if you want to attract the QFF crowd.

Had a look in the shop and most prices are about 10-20% more expensive then where I would normally get it.

Daniel

Indeed. Unless I have my entrances confused, it was like that in December as well.

Please don't tell me that surprises you. Airport stores all over the world are more expensive than those outside.

It is a bit OT, but I am trying to think of when I was last in an airport that didn't have building works going on. In MEL the shops on the way to gates 20-29 have been under contstruction for about a year.

Maybe it is a "tailor made" booth for those pain in the butt credit card sprookers that hound you when your walking to and from your flights in the various QF terminals! That be great, I could slam and lock the booth door and they would never be seen or heard of again!

Memo to QF management....these sprookers as I said are a pain in the butt. I dont like being sprooked by some upstart yelling at you from 20+ metres away, trying to flog their wares, especially rip off credit cards. Do yourselves and your customers a huge favour and get rid of them!

Methinks you may have to take that up with the Airport/Terminal management. I don't believe Qantas are responsible; it's the terminals' admistrations who get the 'rent' revenue from these spruikers.

SACL have no say in this case as the terminal is leased by QF, who actually tried to sell the lease back to SACL in 2004 but it never went through, same for Melbourne or Perth. SACL brought the Ansett terminal off the administrators after long negotiations and a $200M cheque.

These wretched spruikers are located in T2 also, right next to the escalators after you go through security. You have to walk past them if you are heading towards the DJ and O7 gates on the original pier. :(

How is that any different to the australian international terminals where you need to walk through duty free?

The difference for me is that these guys call out as I walk past, trying to engage me in conversation, which I don't like. I don't have that much of a problem walking through the DF store as no-one is trying to hussle me.

They don't for me - but my half-deafness (left ear only, better than normal in the other ear) clicks in, and becomes very selective (selective deafness is a good thing to have, trust me).

At Sydney , you can nicely avoid the duty free. Just after the x-ray machines, there is a staircase on the right which goes up to the Mezzanine coming up right by the QP

Thanks for reminding me. Most times lately I am only connecting in SYD but even when not I keep forgetting about that route
