The old chestnut applies....

If they don't fly they don't consume.
If they do fly (moderately) they should reach gold anyway which confers access.
Not many people want to spend $400++ for a couple of random visits per year. If they were flying enough they would probably have paid for membership at the regular price.

The exception to that point is of course those who say live in OOL or CNS or DRW or HBA, where BFOD could see a lot of JQ flying and no SCs/ points, while still enjoying the QP.

My QC renewal is due, wonder if I could get a discount for my renewal or if this is just for new people joining?

Yes I thought I would ring and ask, nothing ventured nothing gained

Mal,

You may be surprised to know that there are in excess of 200 Qantas Club members via the AFF corporate scheme and from my discussions with Qantas there are many more out there who buy the privilege of lounge access.

My QC renewal is due, wonder if I could get a discount for my renewal or if this is just for new people joining?
Deena,

Welcome to AFF.

If this does not work for you have a look at Qantas Club membership via the AFF corporate scheme.

I paid for QP membership to have lounge access for long haul flights to the UK. This was many moons ago when QP members were able to use the BA Lounges.
If I didn't have status or COS based access now I would get an $99 AA pass for a long haul trip.

This was the reason for my QP purchase back in the day. Along with the packed DRW terminal at midnight and having to compete for a patch of carpet to sit on. No thanks.

I should add its been on hold soon after joining AFF. Thanks all for the fantastic advice :D

Over the years I've joined QP a couple of times, and it made perfect sense to me. My travel varies based on work and a couple of times I've ended up losing all my status. Then when I get a new travel gig I join QP as I know it may take me 6 months of solid Econ flying to get back to gold. Then a few years later when my travel drops off again and I eventually lose my status again, my QP cuts in for however much time I have remaining on it.

I have to take a hit again on the joining fee each time I rejoin, but if I'm not going to be travelling for several years at a time, that's still the best way for me to play it.

I rang Qantas yesterday, the special is only for new people joining QC not current members

Good to see the lounges are not overcrowded and Qantas wants to try and fit a few more people in there.

Will probably take this offer up. Currently on zero SC. Had considered moving some travel to Qantas and can make it to SG/WP but didnt want to do the hard yards without lounge access. Thank you for posting!

Membership pays for itself on the first use of the club when traveling with 3 kids overseas :)
