We redeemed CX flights using Qantas frequent flyer points. Just checking if other people have had any recent issues boarding with CX if no middle name on ticket (but middle name on passport). There are some past threads about it but not sure how up to date it was.
(We rang CX and they said cannot add middle name since QFF and need to ask Qantas FF to do it. We then rang Qantas and they said cannot change it without cancelling the whole redemption booking! )

No problems at all, I've got a QF redemption on CX next Tuesday and it's all ok.

Even when I've booked directly with CX I never put my middle name on the booking and never had an issue.

That's good to know (as heard of some people having problems at CX counter)

Done heaps of flights on CX using QF points no issues. There have been odd cases of problems but you would have to be very very very unlucky. Don't worry about it.

You'll probably not be able to do online check-in, but airport check in should be ok. We always book CX with middle names now to avoid the hassle, and QF should really be doing the same.

Done multiple times with no issue at online checkin or checking in at the airport. You’ll be fine

Online check in works fine as long as you do it on a desktop and not on a phone.

Never been a problem with CX. I don't have a middle name but troublesome Mrs 340 does :p

Not been an issue checking in online, at the airport or downtown in HKG.

It may depend upon where you're going. Eg US wouldn't let me fly when my middle name wasn't on my BP - couldn't get through pre security checks because my name didn't match my passport. Had to get BP re printed by airline.

Wasn’t an issue for us last Nov (MEL - HKG) although I did have a minor panic when I realised a couple of days before we left!
I think I’ve since added our middle names to our QFF accounts.

We are flying CX SYD-HKG-AMS on Wednesday with a QFF redemption booking. The ticket issued by QF shows my first name and my middle initial. I have just tried to do CX Online CheckIn and under my name it shows:
"One or more passenger names do not match the travel document(s). "
At the top of he screen it shows:
"Please make sure your name on your travel document(s) matches with your name on your booking.

To change the name on your booking, please contact your travel agent or local Reservations office, or for urgent assistance, call our Global Contact Centres. [W13Z11000] "

I have called QFF and am awaiting a callback in 1hr15 to see if they can add my full middle name. My QFF profile does have my full first and middle names listed. Has anyone else had a middle initial listed on their QFF bookings and if so did you have any troubles with boarding with CX?

I haven't gone ahead with the Online CheckIn yet.

I've spoken to QF and after checking with a Supervisor was told that QF would allow me to board with the ticket issued that way if it was a QF flight and that it should be okay, but to check with CX to be sure. CX said that the name should match the passport exactly and that I may be denied boarding.

I looked at my QFF profile and there is nowhere to display my name - I can edit address, phone number, email address. I looked back at my last QFF redemption ticket for flights between November 2017 and January 2018 and it was just ticketed as First Name, Last Name with no middle initial then so the middle initial has been somehow added to my QFF profile since then, but not by anything I've done to change it.

When I spoke to QF earlier she said that if CX say I need it changed they have to put me on a wait list for the flight to re-issue the ticket. CX said that if they had issued the ticket they could change it without cancelling the ticket. I've called QF back now that I have spoken to CX but the wait time is over 1hr30 but I will get a call back soon.

Middle initial is not middle name - that was the issue I had in the US - QF BP had middle initial but security said it had to have my name in full - never been an issue any other time.

I've just received the call back from QF after a 3.25 hour wait. I explained the situation again and after checking the QF rep said that QF are not allowed to make name changes for any other airlines other than QF. He said that Cathay do not allow QF to make any changes. I explained that I was told by CX that QF have to make the change to take off the middle initial or add the full middle name since they issued the ticket but he said there is nothing he can do. The call I had to QF earlier this morning sounded like it was answered by someone in the Australian office but this call sounded like it was from India. Do QF have call centres in India now?

I will call again and see if I have any more luck.

FWIW we had this issue last year. Put me in a mild state of panic to say the least. We were on a one world classic award and it was the first flight of 6 flights in J. I had been told by QF changing the name at this stage would put all flights in jeopardy.

Anyway -wasnt a problem.

We happened to be staying at Rydges Sydney Airport before our flight the next morning - we went over to the terminal about 9:00pm after the last flights had been checked in that night and found a lovely lady packing up at the CX check-in counter and she checked us in and printed our boarding passes.

Thanks Battymum. I'm feeling a mild state of panic at the moment too. We are on CX110 in J at 07:35 on Wednesday morning and are staying at the Rydges tomorrow night. When they checked you in and printed your boarding passes the night before were you still able to drop off your bags on the morning of the flight?

This isn't a One World Award booking this time and our return to Australia is on a separate ticket with BA booked with CX Asia Miles points and that has just my First and Last names. When we did a J 280K One World Classic Award in November 2017 QF only listed my first and last names so it's more recently that they have added my middle initial to my QFF profile. I wonder if QFF has done that to many people?

Yes were on CX110 as well, we dropped our bags in the morning. Make sure you have your passports with you if you go over in the evening.
I just checked my old emails for my E Ticket. We didnt have an initial, just first and last names only.

I am currently looking to see where you can change this on the QFF site. Looking to make another booking soon and dont want that headache again.

So does your QFF profile now show a middle initial as well? I looked at my QFF profile and I didn't see anywhere that my name was even listed. It allows me to change address, email address, phone number, PIN and security questions but not name, which is shown at the left of the screen along with my QFF number. I think I'll have to contact the Frequent Flyer centre to have this corrected for future bookings.

No, still only a first and last name.
This is a problem that QFF needs to address as it causes a lot of unnecessary stress.

Please keep this thread updated as to how you get on.
