Hi everyone. I did do a search in the forum but couldn't find an an answer specifically re the membership benefit differences between Lifetime Gold and Gold.

My main question is whether a LTG member will be higher in the pecking / priority order for Upgrade Requests over a Gold? (assuming everything else is identical in terms of Fare Class, date requested etc).

Thanks in advance.

I believe they are identical - but note that if there was a pecking order, LTG would likely be lower, not higher, due to the perception they aren't currently spending as much money with the airline. The PCV would normally be lower, but I don't think PCV is used for upgrade requests (I could be wrong?)

I believe there is another factor, referred to as PCV which rates a customer's value to Qantas. "Recent" revenue can be a factor, so a LT SG "resting on their laurels" may be behind an active SG on that basis, all other factors being equal.

Some indicate Qantas do not use PCV for upgrades but I have a different opinion.

Thanks everyone for their replies and information! Well, that has popped my happiness bubble about reaching LTG...☹️... there I was foolishly thinking that Qantas would give slightly more "priority" or benefit to a LTG than a "just currently" Gold with regard to Upgrades as reward for years of loyalty and very significant revenue 😭.

don’t be too disheartened… I dropped QF after getting to LTG (and having lost plat..) and hv only occasionally flown with them since. But I really can’t complain about the points upgrades that I hv sometimes requested and achieved since. I didn’t ever expect much - certainly domestic where there are 1000’s of us SGs..

Thanks @BCons ! I forgot to mention that I only ever apply for upgrades for overseas (overnight) flights. These are usually always A330 routes so the number of Business seats is very limited and therefore very competitive for getting an Upgrade. Platinum with a Flex Economy fare has helped my success rate a lot, so hence why I was asking (hoping) that LTG might give me a edge of Gold on the upgrade requests once I lose Platinum. Thanks again everyone!

You're giving yourself the big edge with the higher fare class for sure. That's a huge criteria when measuring requests against same-status requests.

Reality is with any loyalty program, current status and "value"(to the company) counts for more.

At least they HAVE a LTG status - which is your reward of course for all that revenue over the years. Some other programs don't offer this. It's great to have earned it, and very handy - but it will have its limits. And, of course, if you fly enough of those flex fares, use things like DSC promos and the like, you may climb to Plat and reap those rewards (as you know).

That is the problem with Lifetime status. It is not only with airlines. I have LTP with Marriott. Definitely not as good reception as when I was going for lifetime status except at those hotels where I stay frequently. But it will always give you the basics.
