I recently moved back from the UK to Australia. I am a BA executive club Gold (OWE) and have just reached QFF Platinum.

I have 860 tier points with BA (need 1500 to retain Gold otherwise you get a soft landing to the next level down).

I am going to be flying J on Qantas to UK (via DXB). Would I be better off trying to retain BAEC Gold (this flight would put me at 1460 tier points, only 40 from retaining BAEC gold) or dont bother and just credit the points to my QFF (I dont think I'll reach P1).

I would say retain BA gold. Awards are better on BA than say QF for internationals.

Eg. I'd value a band 3 upgrade award rather than one same distance for QF. 10k for BA and 25k for QF. Sample quoted is from revenue W to award J.

Interesting replies (not that I disagree with any of them at all). Where are those who mindlessly defined Qantas and always argue majority will stay with Qantas no matter what??!!

Times are a changing. But the OP is flying QF. Even the staunchest of a QF advocates, whilst absolutely committed to flying and recommending QF as a carrier, may concede that even when flying QF there are options other than QFF (ie a distinction between the airline and it's FF program). What we are really missing are the (usually well informed) advocates for AAdvantage in this situation, but I think AA is slowly destroying trust there as well.
