There is an EK A380 DXB-SYD at this time that arrives at SYD just before the curfew; the arrival forms the 0600 SYD-DXB service. As you mentioned, the DXB-KUL-MEL flight also leaves towards the later end of the same bank.

Could QF operate a flight departing MEL at 6am, turning around overnight from LHR as QF2? QF1 will then turnaround at LHR to arrive into MEL late evening. Aligns MEL schedule with EK's schedule for SYD.

This way - Qantas can close the F Lounge after QF93 leaves at 0930. Open the lounge 0400-0930. Massive cost savings.

Seems in line with Alan Joyce's strategy of cutting as many costs as possible.

Yep, and both options are PITA for MEL bound pax requiring an additional transit (and in case of SYD an o/n in SYD), so the QF10 at this time would parallel the EK SYD service and provide much more convenience for passengers originating all over Europe.

Yes - an 0600 departure from MEL would arrive into LHR at 1900; that leaves enough time to form either a 2130 or 2230 departure towards Australia as QF2. Relative to my suggestion above, this involves a longer layover at MEL and a shorter layover at LHR. The short layover at LHR may be a problem - how easy is it to get a departure after curfew at LHR?

I sincerely hope not

How well does the EK flight that departs SYD at 0600 daily for DXB load?

Has anyone been on it to observe the number of passengers (notwithstanding seasonal factors)?

A 1900 hours arrival in LHR is fairly good for being at one's accommodation by 2100 and crashing by 2230. The current 0510 arrival at LHR of QF9 is extremely unattractive to leisure travellers unless they have an air or rail connection to elsewhere in Europe (although the UK's high departure taxes make it an expensive place to depart from on the return to Oz), and must be too early for businessmen and businesswomen with an 0900 meeting in The City.

I think load factors are pretty good with EK415 (0600) ex SYD . This was originally operated by a 77W and moved a A380 during 2013 , which indicates to me the loads are there , whether that is on the EK415 flight or EK414 from DXB the previous night. Have had a few friends use EK415 last year and feedback was the flight is at the top end of loads. The big appeal was the early evening arrival into LHR , which allowed the body clock to adjust to time zone change a lot easier, instead of the early arrival, stay awake all day situation. It would likely be my choice when i next travel to LHR.

Alison Webster Executive Manager Qantas Freight released a statement on Friday, 28 February 2014 stating that "Daily Qantas Melbourne-Dubai-London services will be retimed with a later departure from Melbourne" Does anyone have any idea what time in the evening this would depart Melbourne and what time it arrived in London? Also what does that mean for the departure time from London to Melbourne?

Welcome to AFF :D.

At this stage there is only public conjecture - nothing is official.

Read this entire thread may give an idea, but until the new schedules are confirmed by Qantas we can only make 'educated' guesses.

Closing the FLounge is a terrible idea!

Flew QF10 this week and the crew on each leg have yet to hear anything. Although they may be the last to know!

Can we take from this that it will definitely be evening? Surely 6am would require the phrase "earlier departure"?

Where is this statement?

Unless it leaves much later, with current QF spin that could be the next morning!

Are we going to have to wait until after the IATA northern winter slot conference in June before we find out the new timings for QF9/10?

From what I've heard, QF9 will depart MEL at around 11pm (arrive LHR at around midday following day)

QF10 will depart LHR at 11am and arrive MEL at around 7pm following day.

Not sure when the official announcement is being made and schedules updated.
