I'd like to book a seat in PE from BNE to SYD. Is that possible? Obviously it has to be before the end of this month. The QF website only offers Y or J. If it's possible, does anyone have any idea of how much it would cost? I don't want to waste the time of the call centre operators if it's ridiculously expensive. I want it to be a trial run seeing as I'm looking at a long haul flight next year. I don't care about a meal. I just want to sit in the seat.

Expert Flyer shows availability in W,R,T and Z. I'm not able to book a seat on QF.com, but I can see award seat in Z for 12,000 points and $32 (I looked at 17 September). So my guess is that if you don't want to book an award seat, you will have to call and hopefully they would waive the booking fee.

BNE-SYD does not have a commercial W fare published, therefore you can't book it as a commercial fare.

You should be able to book it as an award seat though.

I went SYD-LHR and found the PE seat very uncomfortable by 8 or 9 hours. But good cabin & service.

Go J. If you can afford it, its about under Aud$600 or so. $$$, I agree, but worth it.
I did when the 747 did the run, and I am glad I did it.
Prem Y does not give lounge access, while J does, and this is your final chance to use the 747, and also to visit the BNEi J QP, if you don't have QP membeship.
With the J I flew, I had the first visit to the BNEi J QP, probably my last, unless I fly ADL to BNE to one of the international ports that QFi still flies via BNE to and from.

BNE to SYD, QF8, 28Sep14, J, Aud$697...
Bit of a pain having to use passport control, but because of the need for the orange sticker, no OLCI, and no buying of duty free, and no Smartgate either, so your departure from BNE will take longer, having to go to counter, show passport, tell them the PNR or surname, having passport data page scanned, go through int security, customs and immigration (both in BNE and SYD)...
No Expresspath either.

Thanks, everyone.

I already know that J should be good. I'm planning a trip to UK next year and I'm thinking of this as a "try before you buy" option. With cash or points it's probably the cheapest way to try Premium Economy. Is it the same product as on the A380? Obviously the flight to LHR would be on an A380 not a 747.

It's more or less the same product, yes.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

So giving a publicly accessible fare on here is not allowed?
Assuming, if PE is not sold on the BNE - SYD sector, personally I would just book a J or subclass of it on QF8.
Pity we can't mention fares on here even where QF themselves publish once you put a date into their flight booking system.

what on earth are you posting about?

Of course members can choose to post information about any "publicly accessible " fare if they choose.

I would go for an award seat in that case.

But depending how you are going to 'finance' your trip to LHR next year (cash or points) I would be seriously looking for alternatives rather than QF PE.

You can get full flat beds out of singapore for around $2000-2500 return on oneworld carriers, whereas I suspect the QF PE will be a couple times that. Probably not the best value for money out there.

Serfty, I put on here, a price of Aud$697 for a J class seat, paid in card, have to add on $2.50 if paid by debit visa/debit mastercard, for flight BNE to SYD on QF8, and the post appeared on here, I made sure of that last night, Sat night, but by Sun am that reply had gone.
I am sure the 747 coming from the US would have PE seats, (on DFW to BNE), but its probably not sold/available for buying on the BNE to SYD sector.
Thats why I am prattling on about paying by card to go in J on BNE to SYD.
If the OP wanted to just try dis Y, it could be about under Aud$200.
But it seems the OP is really wanting PE, so I won't add any more waffle (on here).
Better make up mind ASAP, end of Sep is coming up fast. And fares will only go up closer to date of flight. Unless they decide to have a sale.

That price seems a little optimistic.

The Zuji.com website was quoting return J fares ex BKK (not SIN or HKG) via HEL to OSL for next August of AUD2,640.00 return including taxes which I think is a bargain.

A positioning flight in whY Aust to BKK is doable when it's a day flight or a JQ Star Class sale fare with the option of a plus bundle for points/SC earn or you can always burn QF points for a Classic award in J ex BKK if you can't 'do' whY overnight.

Because I can see it so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

There is also the option of buying a discount Y seat - sometimes sub $100 - and using points to upgrade into W (5,000 points).
