QF127 missed approach at HKG

I flew into HKG on QF127 on 7th March in an A380 and we had a missed approach at a very low height (was just waiting for the thump of the wheels). Captain said the wind changed direction at the last minute and the tailwind was above his limits. Anyone know where I could find out what the actual height was?
 
If you go to planefinder.net, hit the "playback" in the top right, select the date, time and zoom in on HKG you might be able to track your flight from archived ADS-B data and see how low it got. Good luck

Yes very exciting, too exciting for me. You can see which TV program people in the nearby apartments are watching.
Many years ago on my way from Zurich to HKG on a Swiss Air new aribus 340, the pilot attempted to land under strong wind condition 3 times and gave up. The result was a cabin full of passengers vommitting into a bag.

Sounds like one of my early nights as a cabbie.

Without the bag, of course.

After that memorable night, every time I flew I lifted the sick bags from the seat pockets and stocked my taxi with them. Anybody looked a bit green around the gunnysack, I'd dig out a bag, hand it to the passenger and tell them that if they wanted to see how fast a cabbie could stop, they just had to say any sentence with "sick", "vomit", "spew" or "chunder" in it.

Good friend of mine is chief flight controller in HKG on his shift, might have been on his watch, must find out now.

Why do you need to know the altitude?

Does it really matter? The captain did a missed approach for safety reasons which is what is important.

MAYBE the OP is JUST INTERESTED in knowing..some people are inquisitive about 'stuff'.. (myself included) .. a little knowledge about 'stuff' can be good for you!! :)

Considering that this is probably a new experience for the OP, what is the issue with some curiosity? It never killed anyone (but the cat) did it?

Fair comments. But please take the post how it was intended.

Looking at it from the other perspective, I have flown many missed approaches over the years and it would be extremely rare that I would have had any accurate idea of the actual overshoot altitude. It is not something that the pilots would rate very high on their list of priorities.

Jesus mate, chill out. I was just interested. I had no other ulterior motive or desire to criticise anyone. This is my first post on this discussion board so thanks for the welcome. If this is the sort of response I can expect I'll leave you guys to it. Thanks to the others who provided a more sociable and helpful reply

Yes, it never ceases to amaze me how on forums people behave in ways that are way more aggressive than they would in prson. Or pehaps to be more accurate it just seems that way, maybe that's not what they intend but we miss subtle body language stuff.

it's a fair question when a newcomer asks for information to probe why the want it - god knows how often we see these "sensational-QF bashing" headlines in the media.....

on the side, I am interested also but would suggest that it may be best to take this type of query to PPrune.

Not that I hinted at any aggression, merely looking as to why the request. For all we know the OP may tell the story for many years to come!

I guess we Do have the ask the pilot thread which would be appropriate as well.

I was on same fight , and yes I was surprised we had not touched , surprised at the tail wind reason though, water was very calm, just felt like the plane would not drop, to all pilots out there , as I am not, is it possible they just mis-timed it?
also simply amazed at the ease the a380 powered on!!
