QF12 delay ex JFK

The issues with the QF website appear to largely reflect a policy that some flights (which we can work out via back of the envelope are certain to be delayed) do not have their 'status' updated until the flight that is forming them has departed and reached cruising altitude.

I am unsure why QF doesn't update such flights sooner. Is it a programming question, or just conservatism in the doling out of information to booked passengers and the general public 'meeters and greeters?'

Because until the inbound aircraft is actually in the air, they can't ever really be certain about what time it will land (and therefore what time it can take off for the return). If they kept changing the return departure time - repeatedly pushing the revised departure back by 30 mins or 60 mins - pax would be in an uproar. It's really a no-win situation for the airline.

What is the current protocol for QF12 JFK-LAX pax, who are then connecting to other QF flights to Australia?
Do you arrive airside and can you go to the TBIT lounge without going through security?

sure ... Just like a domestic flight.

(Assuming you already have checked in, have BP's and checked luggage [if any] is taken care of ...)

Another QF12 delay today as the tug's engine has just died and they need to tow away the tug and find a new one to push us back!
