Sitting in the SYD QP with the QF WP this evening. Arrived here at 19:15 and the WP checked in for the 20:05 flight to Brisvegas. Having managed to get a middle seat in an exit row decided to upgrade to busy ness class . We left the upgrading in the careful hands of one of the dragons. When boarding was underway, popped back to the desk so that he could collect his new boarding pass , but the supervisor said "ooh.. Mr WP, you are not checked in on this flight and it is closed" and ended up having to rebook onto the 21:05 service

The dragons were very apologetic and quite generous in unrequested compensation fpr the mistake

Moral of the story ; when requesting an upgrade, do wait for it to be processed rather than going away and coming back later

Dave

Hmmm. I wonder how a staffer could stuff up like that? How does a person become unchecked into a flight after checking in, or did they only half process the upgrade and somehow uncheck him?

Oh well. Better that he's on the 21:05 flight now rather than being stuck in SYD overnight.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

We were thinking the same thing actually. I had been auto-allocated a seat in Row 10 and hten asked for an exit. She alocated me into 13B (and printed out BP). Then as it was a middle seat, DAve suggested about asking for an ODU. Seemed that there was availability as she taped away and then said to leave it with her.

Being the gentlemen that we are, Dave and I adjourned to the Bar and imbibed a couple of HPs.

Now that we have caught up on FT and AFF for the night and had a couple more beers on Qantas's account, Now I'm just waiting for the boarding call so I canslide into 2F.

Been a very long day for me. Started to fix up a big client presentation at 9pm on Saturday night and finished at 6am this morning. Grabbed 2 hours sleep, printed it out and flew down on the 11.15am flight to present it this afternoon.

Care to elaborate on what was offered?

I am a WP and have been flying to Perth quite a bit lately (in business). The flights over west always tend to get delayed, but a month or so ago, I had a flight delayed by 4 hours (problems and then a change of plane). Messed up a whole day of meetings. I didn't complain at all, but the next week, I received a voucher for $150 in the mail. Nice to see that Qantas sometimes does nice things off their own bat...:)

Quite amazing!

Many moons ago, travelling home to MEL from CNS via BNE a business associate and myself checked in and were issued with BP's for our 4A/C seats in J (must have been an old Airbus). We were both on the same PNR. We were staying over in BNE but he wanted to change to an earlier BNE-MEL flight for the next day; I was staying on the original booked flight. Not a problem said the agent, takity tick and we thought nothing more... heading in for some HP's or similar.

Came to boarding, his BP was rejected; they could not find his booking. Turns out his remaining itenerary had been cancelled, his seat given to someone else and there were now no Business class seats left.

Luckily, it was simply resolved hoever; he was allocated 2F ... a First class seat (Well it WAS many moons ago ;) ).

We never really found out what happened to his original booking (nor was he too concerned).

Can someone tell me what a WP and a QP is please. This IB (ignorant barbarian) doesn't know, despite being platinum and lifetime gold.

WP = QF Platinum member
QP = Qantas Pub ... refers to Qantas Clubs and to Qantas Club members

Dave

Dave Noble - thanks for the info - now I can understand the language. I never would have figured out QP as Qantas club. Actually, how WP is a platinum member is a mystery. I wonder how many others have no idea what these posts are talking about.

rhjames - being a long term Platinum and Life Time Gold, I feel that I can let you into a little secret of this web-site. Certainly the "P" in WP stands for Platinum, the "W" stands for a derogatory term that we all use at times. Rhymes with bankers. Now, how subtly did I handle that?

Indeed it can be very confusing for people, which is why I have taken to not use the unofficial acronyms and tend to spell it out in full.

Then there are the common uses of incorrect acronyms such as RTW to mean Around The World (ATW).

But you will find there are many many acronyms and abbreviations used, including many airline names and codes and airport codes. I have to look them up regularly and keep this link bookmarked: The Airline Codes Web Site
