QF travel Class E - what does this mean

E is one of the four levels of Red-e-deals. O, Q and N being the other 3.

IIRC, E is typically a lower fare level than O.

Bought a cheapie the other day to syd, usually N or O class, however this is E class.

What does this indicate?

I've seen it used in two contexts - first, a heavily discounted red e-deal (as seems to be the case for you), that naturally doesn't earn miles on some other programs (much like N and Q fares etc); and second, as the bucket used for space available staff fares.

Have no idea if the two have any relation to each other though, I would suspect not.

E vs O is a bit of a mixed bag.

Just quickly reviewed my flights and generally the O class fares were sale red-e-deal fares, with a couple that are higher. The E fares look to be the base red-e-deal price on the route, that is the advertised cheapest fare during non sale times.
The couple of expensive O red-e-deals appear to be related to popular fights when the base fare is X but on those flights the cheapest fare was X+$50.
